ThinkPad X13

While still anecdotal, I'll give you two data points: The trackpad on my Thinkpad E495 is hanging and has lost the ability to register clicks, and had been like that after only two years of use. [...] You can use the physical buttons above the pad, and some people like this retro design even, but IMO it's just reducing space and adds a border and height distance for your finger to travel, so arguably outdated and objectively worse. The Elan trackpad on my Thinkpad x13 gen 2 has been defective from the start and registers palm contact where there is none, with the effect that the touchpad stops responding like every 30s; this is a known defect.

I've had X220s and X220Ts for a few years, and I agree that they're probably one of the best laptops you can get second-hand. But they aren't as cheap as they used to be on eBay and they're only getting older. [...] Screen died. Been using Gentoo since 2004 on all my machines. [...] The game changer for me was using my NAS as a build host for all my machines. I loved my HP 200LX, and I bought a Planet Gemini as well as a GPD Pocket for the same reasons you described. But I am also 55, and my eyes can't deal any more with a screen less than 11" in a general-purpose computing device (as opposed to a phone or tablet, which have an OS and GUI designed for the small screens), so my portable devices are now a Chuwi Minibook X and a Thinkpad X13. The Thinkpad is a revelationm as despite its size it is lighter than almost anything else, including an iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard.

I like my Thinkpad x13 well enough. I hear m1/m2 Macbooks are alright now if you're going to be using Linux with open source development tools.

It's a perfectly functional Lenovo Thinkpad X13 Gen2 that I bought refurbed off Woot. And now it's got double utility!

Our attempt to fix the hinges of the Thinkpad X13 I bought failed for now. The LCD bezel needs to be removed in order to replace the hinges & Lenovo warns that after removal the bezel cannot be re-used. The ThinkPad X13 Gen 1 Ryzen 7 4750U with 32GB memory I managed to score got the treatment: Fedora, Secure Boot. I got it from second hand, while prices are low and we can find treasures if you know what to look for Lenovo

i wound up getting a thinkpad x13 which is my own daily driver, but it's mostly powerful from the side of productivity, not so much for other things like gaming

I bought a 4TB SSD on Black Friday for my Thinkpad X13 Gen 2. I dunno what even to use it for 🤷 Guess I’ll move in 🤣 I’m almost exclusively using Silicon Power SSDs now in my Homelab. Great price/performance.

Lenovo added useless camera humps protruding out of the panel. There is a thick bezel and enough space for a much better camera.
