Steam Deck

My steam deck has been my main dev pc for a year now. Also serves Qwen 3.5 9B when I use my MacBook Air. Distrobox prevents OS updates from clobbering my environment.

Steamdeck lets you set your preferred % and the dock does pass through charging/power, which I love because that combo guarantees the longest possible life for the battery. I turn it back to 100% for flights, otherwise leave it as 80% at all times. Mine is almost 4 years old now but I don’t feel even a hint of battery degredation yet.

Due to a lack of time lately, for past year or more I mostly play games on my SteamDeck and I absolutely love the experience. Last month I've build SFF PC for my living room running Bazzite and I love it too. Go Linux!

In general the steam deck is what made me comfortable switching to pc for gaming. I'm a couch and controller person and the old steam big picture mode was horrible. Then steam deck came around, and valve knocked the new bpm out of the park. [...]

I use tailscale on my steam deck to play stardew valley with my son on my laptop, it truly is amazing

I bought my Steam Deck for a similar imagined use case but I find myself way too aware of the visibility of a larger than average screen to all those around me.

Honestly I have a steam deck and that has gotten me accustomed to not sweating the lower frame rates. That and the ridiculous number of great indie games that aren't heavy on the graphics, and I'm not too worried about upgrades as much as I am worried about replacements if/when the time comes.

For shits and giggles I had Claude build out a full voice cloning pipeline that runs completely locally on my Steam Deck. I’ve got Gemma e4b, Qwen and Chatterbox all running on the AMD.

I buy games via Humble Bundle when possible. They give you a link to download a DRM free copy, which I store away in a large drive. In practice, I often end up playing those games on the Steam Deck, but I know that in 20 years (if I keep that drive alive), I'll be able to easily spin up wine and play those games just fine.

I might be crucified for saying this, but I actually have a Claude skill file for that. I have SSH turned on for the Steamdeck, I use Lutris so all the configs are in a database, so I just point Claude to the MD file and the game files and tell it to set it up for me. The main purpose of the skill file is really just to save the SSH, rsync instructions and give it lutris config examples like which version of proton works, etc.)

OLEDs? That sounds like an amazing rig. [...] I got a cheap big screen TV and it looks like hell. Sometimes I put steam deck on the TV and play it from the couch with a PS4 controller.

i will get to umad p3 on a plane one of these days. unfortunately this airlines free wifi makes me choose between steam deck and my phone and i was not strong enough to sit in a 1/8 pf for another 3 hours without Posting

was playing V on my steam deck before it died on my and now im playing IV on my phone and it's criminal how fairly underepped the series is when it comes to all time great RPGs

YEAHHH emulator handhelds are so fucking cool hope you enjoy yours (I’m partial to the trimui brick due to size but the steam deck which is basically a computer but I’ve been using for emulation has been incredible)

I dont know why, maybe I need some kind of screen protector but I never get as bad eye strain / headaches as I do on my laptop, steam deck, which is weird because they are all about the same distance away + usually set to low/lowest brightness

In an age of cross-platform everything, I'm starting to consolidate where I play my games. Between my PC, my Steam Deck, my modded PS Vita & my phone, I'm slowly figuring out what should go where. It's another layer of choice paralysis peeled off.

Behold my work machine :D I've been using coding agents more and more, and have moved most of my work into this steam deck that's parked in our private suite in a co-working space. I used to have it in a Mac mini, but sometimes there would be power blips that would reboot it, and due to FileVault

I'm very lucky to have my steam deck though, I got it from my brother for $200 and it has served me well in a lot of ways

I bought the trio on sale a while back to eventually play on Steam Deck. I don’t recall playing 2 and definitely never bothered with 3, but I see people swear by the combat in 3. Just from screenshots, it’s gonna be a rough go with 1 for me.

Yeah lil blowy battery powered fan thing that goes over the Steam Deck vent and appears to do roughly nothing 🤣 Worked on my phone though.

Would love the idea in Ireland as we are flooded with vape selling and repair shops on every street. Fixed Dyson v11 twice now and I wish there was a place I could come to get someone with experience to help I broke PSP in attempt to fix it and had to rely on repair shop for broken button on steam deck
