Apple is not known for leaving money on the table like that. True -- although I will say the M series chips were a step change in performance and efficiency from the Intel processors they replaced, and Apple didn't charge a premium for them. I'm not suggesting that they'll stop charging more for RAM than the industry at large -- I'm hoping they'll unbundle RAM from CPU-type. Fact of the matter is that I have a Radeon RX 6600, which I can't use with ollama. First, there is no ROCm at all in my distros repository - it doesn't compile reliably and needs too many ressources. Then, when compiling it manually, it turns out that ROCm doesn't even support the card in the first place. I'm aware that 8GB Vram are not enough for most such workloads. But no support at all? That's ridiculous. Let me use the card and fall back to system memory for all I care. Nvidia, as much as I hate their usually awfully insufficient linux support, has no such restrictions for any of their modern cards, as far as I'm aware.

Super annoying. I have an RX 6600 XT and can't get ROCm to work on Linux. Vulkan ML however worked perfectly out of the box, so at least I got something. Just weird the official thing doesn't work.

Ones in the List I have used :) CDC 6600 DEC VAX 11/780 (IIRC) Honeywell H200, did not expect to see this on the list IBM S/370 (IIRC) IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads - 760, T43, T420, T61, W500 Wang Professional Computer - these were bomb proof. I had a 16 bit Unix running on this. Wang WLTC

Can't say I've been brave enough to tear them apart :D I took the lazy way out and just sorted by specs on the listing. I actually expressly didn't want to overclock the memory, just get something that ran nicely as-is. I'm actually not at 1:1... stable. Perhaps wires got crossed? In another post I mentioned it POSTs but that's about it :( I may be able to get something there, but can't promise or over-represent it. The memory is at 6600 but I have some divisor or whatever at memclk/2. This is super stable
