[...] I'm certain I can play all of the games that I'm interested in on my 3 year old Ryzen 7600x, and that I'm limited by the 5 year old GPU (which I dread upgrading because of the crunch). [...] I find that most of the time the money spent on extra cores would be better spent on a more modest CPU with more RAM and a faster SSD. [...]
That was quick. It is an AMD Ryzen 5 7600X that I bought in 2022
Just a single instruction avx512 loop outperforms movsb by 10x on my computer. I’m on ryzen 7600x. Just an example that it doesn’t need to trash instruction cache or have 10 loops behind conditionals
Sorry for the late reply - it just worked out the box via the GUI for me using Handy. Win 11 with 4070ti, 7600x
[...] I've had extremely minimal performance issues since my switch. [...] I'm running a 7600X with a 9070XT as of last month and am finding my hardware is perfectly fine.
[...] For example, my 7600X has a default TDP of 105W but I run it in Eco Mode (65W) with undervolt and I barely lose any performance. Even if I did no undervolt, running the CPU in Eco Mode is generally preferable since the performance loss is still negligible (5%).
The 5600x - 7600x generation went backwards, dramatically, in power consumption though. The way that I look at, in two generations, we got an 82.9% increase in performance with essentially no power consumption change. [...] There are also substantial gains in areas that are not AVX accelerated - looking at Python performance, database performance, etc.
This was on my desktop with a 7600x and a 7900xtx, I never managed to properly route the dGPU when I have everything plugged into iGPU, seemed like a driver issue where most programs never managed to actually attach to the GPU and got stuck in some driver hell as they were also unkillable. Only managed to get compute and a Furmark vulkan test working otherwise it only works with at least one screen plugged directly into the dGPU
I got a Ryzen 5 7600X. For reference i’m upgrading from a Ryzen 5 1600. heard some of the newer intel chips have some degradation issues over time and haven’t had any issues with my ryzen chip before
The 7600x used 28% more energy than the 5600x to get those big gains. That’s not a small amount - it kept me from upgrading my SFF. My guess is that if you power limited the 7600x, the generational gains would look more linear.
I was using it paired with an AMD Ryzen 5 7600X and 16GB DDR5 RAM. I got the graphics card for about $170 in a Black Friday sale last year (unfortunately this may not happen again due to tariffs)
[...] For an actual single-chip SoC, i suppose it has to be, but even my Ryzen 5 7600X has graphics. [...]
The motherboard I have is MPG B550 GAMING EDGE Wifi (MS-7C91) And the CPU I bought is AMD - Ryzen 5 7600X 6-core - 12-Thread 4.7GHz (5.3 GHz Max Boost) Socket AM5 Desktop Processor - Silver
The efficiency is only worse because the CPU can use the power without burning itself up unlike the last generation's X3D. And efficiency is always better at lower clocks. You can get this generation's efficiency uplift by limiting its power to the levels where last generation's CPU started throttling to keep its 89C Tjmax, but that will inevitably also limit the frequency that's the main performance uplift for the CPU For comparison on how limited last gen's X3D was wrt power, tom's hardware has it on 71W with all core AVX, while my 7600X with 2 fewer cores consumes up to 130W

Common Ryzen 5 7600X problems
Issues at least two owners independently report.
No recurring complaint pattern found across the reviews analyzed. That's a genuinely good sign — it means owners aren't converging on the same problem.
