[...] Transferring a few hundred such photos via a card reader was so glacially slow it was worth adding a 20Gbps USB3.2 2x2 port to my home server (Ryzen 5600x) via a dedicated PCI-E card. [...] Just because a port is labeled USB4 doesn't mean you necessarily get 40Gbps performance. [...] Sadly, in consumer systems the lack of PCI-E bandwidth can still be an issue if you want your expensive GPU to run maximally fast and have multiple fast NVMe drives. [...]
Using the Ubuntu experimental image on the T14s Gen 6, the screen brightness is not adjustable, so for me it is stuck on high. [...] In Windows where I can adjust the brightness, the battery lasts longer. Battery life is much better than any other x86 Thinkpad I've ever owned. [...] I did no real benchmarks, but C++ std::sort() on the Snapdragon runs just 10-20% slower than on my 4 year old Ryzen 5 5600X desktop. [...] On the other hand, I dropped mine in the street, damaging the upper right corner of the display (physically intact, but dead pixels in the corner). [...] (I've dropped my T480 and T450 numerous times, and never had issues other than cosmetic.) So the $35 accidental damage protection was worth it.
I'm in the process of troubleshooting my son's desktop and have swapped out every bit of hardware except for the motherboard and the 2 year old 5600X itself. I just assumed the motherboard had failed at that point and RMA'd the thing but the OEM tested the board and said it checked out. [...]
[...] There is a natural resistance against the newer more expensive machines. [...] And I settled for 5600x with 1080 Ti and DDR4 RAM and a 4-7 GB/s NVMe SSD. [...] I would want to get a better GPU but honestly, the price jump from a 1080 Ti all the way to the 3070 and beyond is just insane and I can't justify it. [...]
[...] I upgraded from Intel 3570K (a 2012 CPU!) to AMD 5600X two years ago simply because the old motherboard had no M.2 slots and honestly didn't feel any difference in CPU speed.
[...] At least when paired with a Ryzen 5600X and 4x 16GB (Kingston KSM26ED8/16HD @3200MHz) memory modules. It's what I've been using for 15+ months as my main development desktop. [...]
I've been running a 2080 TI with AMD 5600x on Linux Mint Cinnamon for three months 24/7 with no graphics issues. [...]
actually one more thing my current main computer i got like 2 years later and technology has kind of plateaued so its still viable and runs great, its a custom build rtx 3060ti with a ryzen 5 5600x, 16gb of ram and 3tb of storage (2tb nvme, 1tb sata)
[...] I bought the 8GB model and added a PCIe-connected 1TB NVMe SSD. [...] If I need some serious grunt I fall back on a tower PC with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU and 32GB of RAM.
To put things into perspective: we have an integration test suite that takes: - 30 minutes with Colima on Mac; - 20 minutes with OrbStack on Mac; - 13 minutes on a weaker CPU (Ryzen 5500U) on a native Linux laptop; - 14 minutes on a Ryzen 5600X and a virtualized Debian inside Windows 10 WSL2. Pretty stark differences. Granted our test suite is mostly I/O bound but that really tells you something about the VM overhead on a Mac and the lack of an actual kernel-native containerization support on macOS.
[...] The 5600X doesn't even have an iGPU and the GFX card they had to have paired with it isn't listed. What does "single core gaming performance" even mean for a CPU that doesn't have an iGPU? [...]
This has a bunch of fluff in it, but it boils down to actually responsive, high framerate, web native remote access and isolation that uses unbelievable amounts of CPU. I have a 5600x on my desktop and pushing a 1440p screen using this protocol is 2% of my CPU vs 15-30% for typical VNC/Jepg solutions and 10% for a normal Gstreamer stream. [...] Obviously Nvidia is still on top, but this is giving them a run for their money in pure CPU while being web native by default. [...] I have been working in the VNC space for some time now and I think this might be a viable replacement with some iteration and to build it right I need like minded people that can help. [...]
I’ve got 90tb of Linux isos consisting of tens of thousands of files on 168tb of spinning rust. I’m running reasonably powerful hardware though (5600x + 128gb ram), suspect GP is bottlenecked by hardware
Most of my VR time is in Beat Saber -- I'd have occasional, quite distracting frame drops with a 5600X that have completely gone away with a relatively cheap upgrade to a 5700X3D. I'd personally argue that smoothing out outlier frametimes is not a small performance bump! As an engineer I care a lot about tail latency for services, and I feel like tail latency ends up being even more critical for high-fidelity gaming experiences like VR.
6.10 broke my fedora gaming proton box and I was on holiday at the time and so upset I just nuked it and put windows on it to play games. [...] 5600X, AMD 6800 GPU, Fedora 40. [...]
I used to be a hard core Intel guy through my career in IT and systems, but man my AM4 has been a super great system, the 5600x was stable, then upgraded to the 5950x to extend the system and it made me a true AMD fanboy overnight.
I apparently am forgetful, as the couch PC that I've got SteamOS on is a 5600X. I've not seen any issues on that.
True - I was just going for 'around the same price' I went 3400G - 1600 Super - 5600X, and performance with the latter was much better (other than being 2 gens behind, the older APUs had half the cache of the non-G variants) Depending on the state of iGPU transcoding this'd probably make a nice chip for a Plex box
[...] With a Ryzen 5600x from £120 stuck in an Era ITX, it's just a shame that we don't have prebuild Steam Machines like this. [...]
I got mine when the prices where highest 🥲 (but I had no choice) I think I paid 800€ for the 3036ti alone back then. That's also why I refuse to replace the whole thing right now. I switched the 3060ti to a 5060ti (mainly because it has 16 instead of 8gb vram) But cpu is still a ryzen 5 5600x
[...] Upgrading my Ryzen 5 3600 to Ryzen 5 5600x seems fitting while upgrading my GPU from GTX 1660 Super to RX 9060 XT. Of course I got the 16GB so this card should last me a very good long time. I'm still going to use my current build with AM4 until this stupid AI dies down.
i've had this happen to me before :\ these DSLRs and stuff can be so unreliable anyways 4:17 PM || ❤️ 80 || CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 80% || GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070 + 1.5 + 2.5 HD ReMIX INTERGRADE 99% [1:00/3:45] ▶️ Darude - Sandstorm ----⚪----------------- (fallback: plane begging to show 1gb vram avi)
So my AMD Ryzen 5 5600X arrived with 3 bent pins, so what I do? I prop a tripod, hook my phone to it, my right hand hold the tweezers, my left hand hold the gpu, look at the pins through my iPhone camera and fixed the pins, NOTHING can stop me since I’m visually impaired.
[...] GPU-wise I got a second hand RX5700 XT from an eBay auction. Paired with a Ryzen 5 5600x. [...]
Before I go to bed, I got one of the pieces to upgrade my gaming htpc. (Home Theater PC) Ryzen 5 5600x!! Now for the new motherboard and PSU (650w), as I got a feeling the current PSU (450w) will blow up if I dare try to OverClock the 3060 and the new cpu.
As a consumer who nursed an overclocked 1080ti along for 2.5 gens longer than I would've liked thanks to crypto and then AI, I was reading this fearing a positive conclusion - thinking "Oh great, just when it's time to upgrade my 5600x CPU data centers will start driving up already over-priced consumer CPUs too." Although said somewhat tongue in cheek, it has been a rough several years for tech hobbyist consumers. [...] Now that maybe the AI bubble is just starting to burst, we've got tariffs to ensure tech consumers still won't see undistorted prices. [...]
Linux doesn't see one on my Ryzen 5600X desktop at least. [...] In both cases they do have software watchdogs (NMI based) which relies on a hardware timer triggering an NMI in the kernel. [...]
BTW I asked detailed narrative descriprion of other purely benchmarking Zelda video with 5 second snapshots: Video: Zelda TOTK, R5 5600X, GTX 1650, 1080p 10 Minute Gameplay, No Commentary Here can be found narrative descriprion source and command: Then I converted it into narrative voice over with Gemini 2.5 Pro TTS: It's somewhat desynced from original video and voice over take 9 and half minutes instead of 10 in video, but description of what happening on screen is quite accurate. PS: I used 144p video so details could be also messed up because of poor quality. And ofc I specifically asked for narrative-like descripription
Same here. I use a modern Windows 10 PC (Ryzen 5600x, RTX 3070Ti) when playing games. I wonder if the performance is better on Linux for some reason.
[...] Consider my previous workstation CPU, top of the line a few years ago and no iGPU: Integrated GPUs is a feature of server mainboards so that there is something to display with for troubleshooting, but not on any retail mainboards I am aware of. [...] It simply doesn't exist on all CPUs, consider the AMD 5600, 5600x and 5600g, last gen mid-range CPUs adequate for gaming and the x had a little more clock speed, and the g had an iGPU.
[...] I also ran it on x86 (AMD Ryzen 5600X) and got similar results; everything ran faster on a 4.6 GHz chip, but ChaCha8 stayed around 2 cpb while PCG improved a little to about 0.7 cpb. [...] It's also worth noting that cpb is still a measure of average throughput not variance or latency and while Go's buffered ChaCha8 implementation amortizes to 2 cpb, when the 32-element buffer exhausts, generating a new number is much more expensive than the previous 31 numbers. I wouldn't say the performance is good enough for every use case.
Currently have a desktop as my primary device with an AMD Ryzen 5600x. [...] Had a Macbook Air 2019 that was starting to feel sluggish. Desktop was fine since I was working from home the last 2 years. [...]
they were about as fast as the then 6 years old 4 core i5 I was using at the time No they were faster than your old quad core i5. My M1 Pro laptop has a Geekbench 6 score of 12,626. My Ryzen 5600X desktop (6 cores, faster than a quad i5) has a Geekbench score of 8,583.
