I had the same issue, decided to remove Roku instead… I used to have a Roku TV, plus a a few of the standalone Roku Ultras for my other (non-Roku) TVs. I got a full page advert when I started up the TV one day and started the process of replacing them all (I think it is when Roku were experimenting with that). Sounds just like a poorly written app. I'm surprised Apple doesn't enforce stricter performance guidelines. On an older Roku Ultra Peacock also isn't great but not nearly as bad as you describe - maybe they just ported over their Roku version somehow and it has horrible Apple TV performance. [...]

[...] I have a Apple TV 4K (and Roku doesn't do much better, to be clear), connected to a Marantz Cinema 70s (8K, Dolby Atmos, 7.2), and little to nothing that is done either on the receiver, ATV, or playback source does anything to alleviate the huge frustration that is "being able to hear dialog cleanly without rupturing a speaker, eardrum or both when there's an explosion". I will stand by my Roku Ultra till the end. It always runs smoothly Any streaming apps I've used on a smart TV seem slow and clunky.
I was genuinely upset when the brand spankin' new Roku Ultra I bought myself for Xmas told me the Crackle app was unavailable. I don't want to watch The Critic on Tubi!
