reMarkable 2

[...] I toyed with getting a Scribe because I read a lot of full size PDFs which aren't a great experience with such low refresh rates and small screens, but opted for an iPad instead. I owned a ReMarkable 2 a few years ago and don't really have anything good to say about it.

I love mine - I've had it for over 5 years now. So I have a reMarkable 2, which is the same size as the new Pure I think. I use it daily at school - and the new addition of screen sharing on the web app is a massive plus for teaching now.

It's the reMarkable 2, and I've apparently had it since 2021, didn't realise it was that old! It is worth it for me, but it was a lot cheaper when I got mine, I don't think I paid more than £400 for it.

i have had remarkable 2 for about 5 years now totally different than ipad i use it every day at work for notes. what i find it best for is pdf arch drawing markups, project sketches and planning think of it as a notepad replacement. i highly recommend remarkable 2, the new one for color

I got my remarkable 2 3/4 years ago and I still use it as my daily driver and it feels amazing; the high end devices in this space are really amazing the only tradeoff is that they're locked down. the BOOX is something a bit cheaper, I don't love writing on it but it is stock android and extensible

i have had my remarkable 2 since early 2021 and the only thing i wished was that it was a bit smaller. i don’t have a need for this, but i do recommend it, especially if you have no e-ink devices yet. e-ink is one of my favorite technologies

Yeah, this is the ReMarkable, a surprisingly fantastic e-ink reader/writer. I've had it for a few years and it keeps getting better. I think they've at least made the Remarkable 2 by now, it's lovely.

haha, we had it right in our pocket all this time. I got a Remarkable 2 a few months ago and that also has helped. I'm saving blog posts to read later and using it instead of the phone to avoid distractions

Like you I used loads of notebooks but I've not bought one since May when I got a Remarkable 2. It's what I've been looking for for years, nice and 'dumb' apart from file storage and transfer, with a beautiful natural feel to the writing. My life is transformed!

100%, and I go further to "don't buy hardware until it hits version 3" - version 1 is full of bugs, version 2 tries to include all the stuff they couldn't fit into the original version 1, so it's not until version 3 they've got a clear idea of what the thing should be and how to make it without bugs. There was an article on the FAQ website from remarkable, if I remember correctly, that took me to a step-by-step process by which I could update it. Not a blog, but I handwrite presentation slides sometimes. And, of course, pages of notes. I use my ReMarkable 2 for that, so it's pretty easy to import to desktop and run scripts.

Yeah my remarkable2 was the only way for me finally to break free from paper bullet journals. And using a custom hyperpaper.me navigable pdf template was a game-changer. A few months ago I sold the rm2 and got an rm3 "paper pro" and despite the $$ it has ROI as a daily driver (alongside Obsidian running on my M4 macbook air).

I had a ReMarkable2 for awhile and don't really recommend it. It's not the same as writing on pen & paper and I like the aspects of finding different papers, pencil lead, pens, etc. [...] To be more specific, the ReMarkable 2 had a wildly inaccurate pen tip, but only on like the bottom 1/2 to maybe 1/3 of the screen, which was enough to completely destroy my desire to use it at all. On top of that the software is pretty meh. [...] The UI was clunky and slow. Any real advantage to digital nature (built-in OCR, sorta search) was so poorly implemented that it wasn't worth it.

Agreed, I really prefer using my reMarkable 2. I see it less like an iPad and more like a bottomless pit of scratch paper and printouts that I can carry more conveniently than individual dead tree products. This is probably furthered by my not using their cloud subscription and using a USB cable or SSH to transfer files instead.

I used to use my remarkable 2, but it just sits now. The change was when amazon stopped allowing access to kindle book files, which I could convert to epub or pdf for viewing on remarkable.

I got a remarkable 2 roughly when it was released and as far as I can tell the company never supported third party devs. They gave you root access but no relevant source code... Really quite disappointing, the device could have been a lot more useful with even a tiny bit of energy spent releasing source code for things they already developed.

The value is in the lack of features. [...] My reMarkable 2 is the best focus device I have. It's the best writing device by far, the best "draw some woodworking plans" device, the best "work on a crossword puzzle" device, and a very good reading device (page navigation is slower than Kindle, but being able to read PDFs designed for 8.5x11 which are unreadable on Kindle makes it a wash). On an iPad, at any moment there could be a toast from Signal, or Discord, or Messenger, or whatever. I have the ReMarkable 2 so I am biased here but these devices do more than replace paper. My fav feature so far has been screensharing from the ReMarkable 2 while on online meetings. So while their whole thing is about replacing paper, it actually does a lot more than just that.

I have the Remarkable 2 and my only gripe is being unable to use a mechanical keyboard with it. In every other regard it is truly a delight, perhaps even a perfection of certain modes of thinking.

Pretty disappointing release. Over the years, I have bought 3 reMarkable 2 and 1 reMarkable Pro. That move to colors and having to charge a pen instead of more features (a Kindle integration will be sweet), faster devices, and focusing on better feedback on writing seems a bit of a fumble.

Most jobs I've had I use a macbook and I take daily notes in the Apple Notes app Ex: W22 D111 Wed May 28, 2025 (7) The (7) means hours since I'm a contractor and I do walks/subtracts time that I fill in with PTO I will probably get a remarkable 2 again at some point, it seems redundant if you have a tablet like device (I have a Surface Book 3) but that is rarely used funny. I used to use an RM2 a lot but had to sell it when I needed cash. It's cool that it's programmable.

Thank you! You just sold a kobo :-) I have a remarkable 2 and really like it, but my wife needs a new "Kindle" and I'd rather cut my finger off than pay Amazon to abuse me. Looking forward to trying out the kobo

I have a reMarkable 2. But I got it early enough so the subscription is free for me, as they were kind enough to not take away functionality people had paid for. I do use it without the subscription functions usually, though.

no, i don't find a lag as you describe studying and taking notes from textbooks is really useful if i was in your shoes, id try remarkable 2, then upgrade if you need color this is one of ways i use it

this is why I wanted something with a decent enough keyboard but is mostly just offline, I was given a no longer needed remarkable 2 so I got a keyboard case and made just that

I bought a remarkable pro move because without writing things down I’m a dummy. I also bought a remarkable 2 and used it for a TTTPG session and it was amazing…..even though I split the party. Highly recommended the remarkable note tablets!

It's not Android/Linux per se, but also not Apple/Microsoft, but I love my Remarkable 2. [...] It is on the pricey side but it does feel like writing on paper. I use mine constantly.
