A year ago today I got my Google Pixel Fold; my first folding phone and I don't think I could ever go back! Durability wise this thing has held up remarkably well; around 2000 folds, no scratches, peeling or damage to the inner screen, looks exactly the same as when I bought it second hand.

Boring not-boring: I bought last year's Google pixel fold, it's absolutely brilliant having a huge screen, and second hand it's £550 not £1650 because folding phone people are gadget geeks who think they absolutely need the latest model. I've stumbled on a wormhole in the pricing continuum.

Same here. I ditched the google pixel fold after a year because the hardware had some issues, also tbh I prefer the iOS ecosystem. I’m so glad this is coming out.

I've been dailying a pixel fold 9 pro for a while now and love the thing. [...] I wouldn't hold your breath for a non visible crease though, nor for it to necessarily be class leading in its screen tech. I doubt any of it matters though, the Pixel Folds aren't exactly class leading in these regards either and the fold is just not a concern at all once you're using it. it's practically invisible from head on, and the "plastic screen protector" worries are really not an issue either. The durability of the inner screen is actually much better than you'd expect since it spends most of its pocketed life protected from external scratches. I use a bespoke hacker software keyboard (ctrl/meta/custom keys for GNU screen and emacs) and also bespoke SSH client (fork of the original irssiconnectbot) for years. My phone is the original Pixel Fold. You would think I use it unfolded but the passport form factor lends itself to be almost as productive folded that I use it that way most of the time. Unfolded it's just a bit better experience (bigger keys / more display real estate/ more characters per line/ etc). [...]

Foldables get this job done well. My (OG) Pixel Fold is a great size & aspect ratio while folded, easy to use one-handed, but has a giant screen when you open it up. The newer Pixel Folds and the other foldables on the market have all grown the screen vertically but they're still more compact than most flagships.

with the gen ai cli tools, i think if i go all in, i could skip lugging my laptop around. theres some UX warts to phones where i think i need a keyboard for tab, ctrl+c, ctrl+v, ctrl+d, delete, and so on, that arent in gboard, but i think it could be a fun side project to design and build a tiny mechanical keyboard that only had those buttons i need im running the newer pixel fold, so ive already got a ton of screen real estate. I just made the switch to Android last week following the release of the pixel fold 9 pro. [...] The folding phone has now basically replaced my tablet, my phone, and my e-reader. It's just such a huge technological leap to just be able to open it up in the subway or in bed and get access to the massive screen on demand. It's actually much more comfortable to hold and type on this way that I'm writing this comment sitting on my couch with the phone unfolded in my hands.

What? I just got a pixel fold and during the setup it asks to connect my old device (pixel 5). After a few minutes I have a carbon copy of my old device save a few apps I sideloaded.

I thought foldable phones were all hype till I got the pixel fold. Now I get the hype and pick it up more often so I can doom scroll on two apps next to each other.

i have had the misfortune of repairing a google pixel fold like twice and that looks like a google pixel fold.

This AYN Thor is about the same size and weight as my phone. Which speaks more to the fact that my phone is huge (Google Pixel Fold), but also bless a thing that can play switch games and fits in my pocket.

Yeah, it drives me crazy! I have a pixel fold and the act of opening my phone refreshes it. Which is MADDENING because I only do that when I want a big size better look at something!

My pixel fold 9 got 3 hardware failures (battery, speaker and folding sensor) and was warranty replaced for a fold 10. While it was being replaced I was using a non foldable phone and was totally missing the folding experience (large screen and multitasking for some personal use cases), so I am team foldables for now. otoh I do not get the idea behind the flip phones

I have a Pixel Fold and similar experience - some minor nuisances but not come across anything that doesn't work. The biggest nuisance is apps restarting when switching from the front screen to the big screen.

I got a Pixel Fold recently, and using it makes me sad that Windows Phone got cancelled. It was absolutely ahead of its time. I would love to roll an PS that can provide three interface experiences from the same device.
