My experience with my own pixel 7 pro and a pixel 5 has been that these devices are an order of magnitude lower in build quality than Samsung or iPhones. Subjective, I am at my third Pixel phone in six years and I never had an issue.

My Pixel 7 Pro I got in 2023 seems to still be going strong and aging well 3 years later.

I usually have been happy with pixels but it has trouble focusing on infinity, and the image stabilization on the 5x zoom lens is so jumpy it's worse than nothing at all. I'm too used to the big screen and real keyboard; even this 12" Thinkpad is on a different planet compared to any cellphone wrt usability. Pixels are expensive however, and so many cheap old tablets could be converted to run native Linux and be reused for a lot of tasks, from IoT/home controllers to instrumentation panels, but keeping them tight closed only makes sure they're thrown away once the OS is too old to be upgraded or run new apps.

I had the same doubt, but my understanding is that all the image processing takes place before the camera app gets the image feed. Even with the OpenCamera app (which allows for manual focus control), I'm still getting the same quality of pictures on my GrapheneOS Pixel 7 Pro as with the stock OS and camera app.

I miss my LGs for exactly this reason. They were just about the only ones doing anything 'new' beyond "hey our camera is 12% better than last year!" My Pixel 7 Pro is great and all, but it doesn't do anything interesting

Already had my fill of Pixel 7 Pro problems. The screen failed to register any touches on it, twice. Once within warranty, once outside it. [...] The screen just failed to respond to touch. [...] After a factory reset, it started working, but it doesn't get much more than 12-16 hours of battery time before needing a charge. After losing a lot of money, time, and patience, I'm done with Google anything. [...] Not sure what the point is of having 7 years of updates when the phone's hardware will barely last one of those years. [...] Switched to a Samsung A54, and although it is slower and laggier in some aspects, the hardware is solid and I've been impressed at how clean OneUI is. Tip: When your Pixel screen fails to respond to touch, you can at least plug in a USB mouse and recover what you can before tossing it into the dead gadget drawer.

I have the same phone (Pixel 7 Pro) and I have the same issue tried Brave + Chrome with same results

I use the WebCodecs API with VideoDecoder with a very specific use case, to get data arrays using the great compression of video codec and the data having temporal coherency. Demo here : And I have some issues with the copyTo method of VideoFrame, on mobile (Pixel 7 Pro) it is unreliable and output all 0 Uint8Array beyond 20 frames, to the point I am forced to render each frame to an OffscreenCanvas. Also the many formats of frame output around RGBA/R8 with reduced range 16-235 or full range 0-255 makes it hard to use in my convoluted way.

I'm on Google Pixel 7 Pro with Android 14. The amount of random UI glitches since I got the phone (recent app picker button stopped working 10 min ago, Google Photos UI not working randomly til I restart phone) is inexcusable. Samsung went from horrible laggy touchwiz to UI better than stock Android based on my experience Oh. And Android 14 update rearranged camera UI which was already fine

My Pixel 7 Pro does. But I have GrapheneOS, so maybe that's not a vanilla feature.

I own a Pixel 7 Pro (and owned the Pixel 6 Pro), and I regularly have iPhones of friends/family in my hands. Especially for the flagship Android phones like the Pixel Pros, I really don't think there is a noticable difference. They have excellent build quality, camera quality is so similar to iPhones that I couldn't tell which one is better, and on the software side I think it's a matter of being used to it (where I'm a lot more comfortable on Android).

Nerd reaction: I was using my Pixel 7 Pro Sunday when a flash flood wireless emergency alert (WEA) was issued. My phone, despite not being connected to a cellular network (wifi only), vibrated and displayed the WEA. I'd previously thought WEA only displayed on phones connected via cellular.

I got a case for my Pixel 7 Pro, but even without it they put the cameras in a nice bar. I feel like Apple could steal that.

I got a refurbished Google Pixel 7 Pro back in 2024, it's ace. Great battery, brilliant camera, loads of storage. Better than any Samsung I've owned.

I upgraded to a Pixel 10 Pro and I love that it is smaller than my Pixel 7 Pro but it's so funny that I got a smaller, thicker, phone and it's newer and I'm happy. The 7 Pro was thinner and had that weird curved screen... Anyway I'm happy it's just funny.

Temux doesn't provide hardware acceleration on my model phone (Google Pixel 7 Pro), and the render took about twice as long on my phone as it would have on my desktop PC

I've had My pixel 7 pro since launch and it's been great! The battery is starting to degrade but other than that, it's still a top notch phone.

Due to the fact these images will be taken using my phone on my TV, you'll have to forgive me if the TV, makes the quality a little off. I use a Pixel 7 pro phone and their cameras are amazing so you shouldn't have to worry too much, but I'm paranoid so thought I'd warn in advance. [...]
