Pixel 6 Pro

I had the Pixel 6 Pro and everything was amazing... except for signal and battery. [...] The battery was quite bad from the very beginning, barely lasting a day of normal usage, but I thought "well, at least they seem to have taken lots of care to avoid battery aging - slower charging than other phones, intelligent charging speed, etc. [...] Two years later it wasn't even making it to 6 PM, or 3-4 PM on heavy use days (such as trips). OTOH my previous phone (Huawei P30 Pro), with much faster charge and no "intelligent" anything, still has amazing battery after more than 5 years of use (now in my wife's hands). [...] A pity because the software was amazing, but that's no use if you operate under constant battery anxiety and can't even use Google Maps and camera on a trip without spending hours charging at the hotel.

As a another data point, on E4B, my Pixel 6 Pro (Tensor v1, Oct 2021) is getting about 4.4 t/s decode on a picture of a glass of milk, and over 6 t/s on text chat. It's amazing, I never dreamed I'd be viably running an 8 billion param model when I got it 4 years ago. And kudos to the Pixel team for including 12 GB of RAM when even today PC makers think they can get away with selling 8.

it's not just Apple devices, i'm still using my Pixel 6 Pro (launched in 2021). i used to upgrade every other year but these days the phones last longer without slowing down and everything else went up in prices. i see no compelling reason to upgrade (no significant camera upgrade or features worth upgrading for).

In my experience, the best battery care measure is to get a phone with a good battery... I bought a Huawei P30 Pro in early 2019, never took care of preserving the battery, always used fast charging (which is very fast in that phone, 40 W). 4 years later, the battery is still going strong (now the phone belongs to my wife). On the other hand, I bought a Pixel 6 Pro in early 2021. From the beginning, I saw that the battery barely lasted a day of heavy usage, so I was more careful (trying to never get below 20%, deactivating 5G, etc.), plus the phone charges slower (around 20 W, I think) and has built-in charge planning to charge slower overnight. Even with all that, two years later, the battery is absolute crap. [...] when travelling) I need an external battery to last though the day.

Opposite of my experience, I daily drove a Pixel 6 Pro from launch until 8 Pro launched and have been using 8 Pro since. I upgraded because I can, my Pixel 6 Pro is working just fine, I've added it to my growing device catalog for testing during mobile development. Over the course of the 6 Pro, I replaced it twice, once for a cracked screen and the second time for cracked back glass using preferred care (both close in time to each other from similarly stupid drops). I do not use a case for my phone. None of those three devices had any issues with battery. My partner is using a 7, two of my friends have 6 Pros, and I just upgraded my parents from 4a to 7a and battery hasn't really been a serious problem from any of them. [...] The OS gives you tools to identify what those apps might be when you dig into the battery area of settings. [...] (came from a 5a) Since you can't remove GMS from a Pixel without flashing a ROM to it as far as I know, can I assume you are not using stock software? A lot of Pixel's battery performance is made up using the adaptive battery features. Okay, elaborating: My phone that I've had for the past 3/4 years, the Pixel 6 Pro, had been having tons of problems the past two weeks, to the point where I couldn't even type a whole sentence without having to close/reopen the phone, over and over, amongst MANY other problems. may end up upgrading my phone (Pixel 6 Pro 256GB) pretty soon. actually considering going back to an iPhone, haven't had one since the 5C. been on Android for 11(?) years and my biggest hurdle would be losing YouTube ReVanced lmao.

@PWei888 My phone is too old for me to consider GrapheneOS. It's a Pixel 6 Pro, which is currently on their supported devices but will drop off of it in October. I don't want to change to GrapheneOS only to have to change OS again 9 months later. [...]

Wow. Either you're extremely unlucky or I'm extremely lucky. I'm still using my Pixel 6 pro and have had zero hardware issues with this phone or my previous pixel 4.

I have a Pixel 6 Pro. I played a bit with it's raw format when I got it. [...] At the hardware level, there's not that much difference between cameras in different phones. My Anker GaN chargers seem finnicky with cables, resulting in drop-outs and flapping phone charging on my Pixel 6 Pro. Anker customer service were happy to send me replacements but they weren't any better. I tried Ugreen GaN chargers and they seem to work much better. And a couple of my Anker GaN chargers have failed now, not long out of warranty. [...] I just can't get them to reliably charge all my devices, whereas Ugreen chargers seem to work better.

I think there's a lot of manipulation of public opinion in the camera processing as well. I got rid of Pixel (6 Pro) because of its camera - it does quite well for landscapes, but on people's faces it's really bad - I used to get gray skin, eye color turning blue to black etc. [...] Never seen something like this on other phone cameras. I have owned a Pixel 1, Pixel 2, Pixel 6 pro. The Pixel 6 pro has had its screen break 4x and I have to pay every time despite having the insurance. Terrible, weak screen. The phone feels cheap too. Lots of software errors now. [...]

I had this exact issue on my Pixel 6 Pro! I thought it was done for but it seems to have recovered over the last few months and I don't see it anymore.

My current phone, a Pixel 6 Pro, is becoming unusable due to screen flickering. [...] I'd be more inclined to hold this against Google and not get another Pixel if my previous phone, a Samsung flagship, hadn't died in approximately the same way after approximately the same lifespan.

The Pixel 10 will have a TSMC manufactured chip. I'm keeping my Pixel 6 Pro for another year.

I have a lot of data on my smartphone I want to be secure, plus I like the OLED screen for reading ebooks/watching videos and I also want to make great photos. Only Google Pixel devices tick those boxes, but at least you can buy older gen Pixels rather cheap (Google Pixel 6 Pro with similar camera setup as the Pixel 9 for example)

These days, I only use a phone camera (Pixel 6 Pro) and it is configured to not upload my photos to the cloud. Every few days, I plug in a USB cable, move all of my photos off the phone to my computer, curate the photos (i.e. delete ones I don't want), and add them to my photo manager. Curation is key to avoid having a mess down the road since I may take 10-15 photos of the same scene, and only save the 1 or 2 that turned out the best.

When my Pixel 6 Pro screen died, I could still hear the haptic feedback from button presses. So I plugged in a USB C to HDMI adapter, and I couldn't believe I couldn't see it on the screen! [...] That resulted in months of recovering accounts by taking my picture holding up handwritten signs and my ID. Of course I should have saved the backup codes, but it would have been really nice to have an alternate way to see my screen when my phone was otherwise still working.

Pixel 6 Pro I got after that, I was distraught to learn that Pixels didn't support video-out at all Since Google switched from Qualcomm to Samsung SoCs starting from the Pixel 6, they lost a lot of performance and cool features compared to previous Qualcom driven Pixels. [...]

I don't think my pixel 6pro stutters unless there are Bluetooth issues. I used it cycling and listening music for many hours, and if music was cached, no issues. Sometimes there are issues with Bluetooth and streaming, but I think I can tell these apart from other stutter.

It also had noticable lag on my Pixel 6 Pro, which while not super new, isn't exactly a low-end device.

My experience with my Pixel 6 Pro is also amazingly snappy UI and great software, but absolutely crap battery, the worst of any smartphone I've ever had (and I suppose that's the chip's fault, because the battery itself has a normal amount of mAh). I agree with you about the build quality, but also from a software perspective. I've been a long time Pixel user, and have had the Pixel, Pixel 4 XL, and currently have the Pixel 6 Pro. On every device, there has been one or several glaring software bugs that haven't been fixed for months, or have required a really, really nasty workaround. A good example was the bluetooth stack on the Pixel 4 XL. We got a security software update one day, applied it, and then found that the bluetooth connection to loads of devices was suddenly broken. [...] Instead someone (not from Google) worked out that if you went into developer mode, you could swap out the bluetooth stack for a previous version, and it might work again. Is this sort of blasé approach to quality assurance and lack of urgency around fixing user reported bugs that really, really irritates me about Google's hardware devices. The 6 Pro is an ok phone but also has it's problems (painfully slow and somewhat unreliable fingerprint unlock). I think I've had enough and I'll probably give a Samsung device a try.

with a Pixel 6 Pro and graphene OS installed (and this was the same with stock Android) - i have to say the call quality is absolute garbage on this device. The picture quality on Graphene - also aweful. I am really upset that even this option is not great...Lineage seems so flaky :/ Dear Nokia - please make an S30+ based phone with a QWERTY keyboard....please.

Maybe I have abnormally large hands & pockets but the Pixel 6 Pro w/case size is really good. I am always annoyed when I have to use someone's phone and their tiny screen.

I got the Pixel 6 Pro and it could not figure out what it should be connected to: WiFi, 5G, or 4G and of course rather than just choosing one it decided to not have any connection whatsoever unless I moved a few hundred feet to a different location or rebooted the phone. There was lots of discussion around this and youtubers even covered it but rather than fix the issue Google focused on releasing the next phone.

no I got it to record Miku expo in 4k60 then I’ll return it I don’t need a thousand dollar phone. My $200 Pixel 6 Pro is plenty luxurious enough. Same 12gb ram, 3 cameras, it just can’t record 4k60 for more than 10 minutes..

I can now officially say that my Pixel 6 Pro is better at displaying color than my Predator Helios 300 gaming laptop (😢). My phone score should be better, but apparently my finger isn't precise.

I've never bought an iPhone for personal use because of the price tag, but I've had a 12 and now a 14 for work and they make me crazy. The keyboard isn't as good as my 5 yr old Pixel 6 pro, and it's harder to set my cursor to edit text

I went to a few phone repair shops nearby to fix my speakers on the phone. One place refused to work on my Pixel 6 Pro noting it is a difficult model to disassemble and reassemble and didn't want to try. Another shop said they would try (also noted it's a difficult phone) but needs my phone...

I'm still on a Pixel 6 Pro. Tbh googles push for AI everything and no real innovations since kept me here, and my phone runs perfect.
