OnePlus 9

Have had my OnePlus 9 4 years, seems it wasn't as good on launch, but got alot better over time, at this point im considering a battery replacement as health is like 84% now, but the fast charging makes it alot less noticeable, but kinda want that 6000 mah the OP 13R has. But the OP 9 has been the best lasting phone i have had, 4 years in and probably another 4 years easy i think. And i find i use the added close up zoom mode alot more than any other camara feature, just to read small serial codes better.

Just a couple weeks after I got it for a steal on Amazon it was 180$ before tax brand new but just a few weeks later they made it 500$+ for like a couple months after that the price crashed back down to around 200$ but now you can only find pre owned 😢.

It sounds like it's a typical Carmack argument - distilled and hyper logical, and his conclusion is more to do with the pointlessness of it. I still daily drive a Oneplus 7T; for $350 in 2020, it's served me incredibly well, barely any performance drop over the years. The battery has weakened ofc, the 2 day battery life has dropped to a measly 9 hours, but that's more than enough.

I switched from Samsung Galaxy (first S, then S3) to OnePlus years back, and I've been a happy camper. I currently have an OnePlus 9, I've heard no so good (compared to previous) reviews of their newer models, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. My current phone has been running great for multiple years, minimal bloatware, would recommend.

OTOH my OnePlus 5T is more than 9 year old now, and still perfectly usable (I changed the battery once).

I was functionally homeless for 9 years. Food stamps in America are inconvenient as they aren't accepted everywhere, come with strings attached as to purposes, are a way for others to other their users, require onerous paperwork and blasé treatment like a criminal, and are most often insufficient, especially in big cities and Southern states. Direct cash aid is little-to-nonexistent because of the cynical and discriminatory presumptions "people should work (even if they're disabled)" and "they'll just buy booze and drugs with it".

That delay in capturing photo is there in my OnePlus 7T as well after updating to Oxygen OS 11. So this is not OnePlus 9 series issue, this is Oxygen OS 11 issue. [...]

Hey @bsky.app There's no way for me to exit a video if I open it on the app with my phone. I have a OnePlus 9. [...] I have to double press the power button to open the camera to get out of the app and then close it.

I got a OnePlus 9 for this exact purpose and it was good, but not without issues. [...] That OnePlus 9 had some weird issues that eventually got resolved but it took a while. Important to differentiate between an OS that builds for a phone and one that actually works for a phone, but there's not usually a ton of reviews for the latter.

It's sad, but I'd estimate 99.9% of the use of the images I've taken is through google street view, not alternatives. It's what people reach for when they're curious about conditions somewhere.

never used an Apple device. I've been using a OnePlus 9 w/ LineageOS since '22. it takes some extra time and a teensy bit of interaction with a command line, but the bonus is that I expect to keep using it, barring unforeseen unfixable physical damage, for a long time to come

Weird, my OnePlus 9 only fast charges when connected to the original charger and not my laptop charger. Even when my laptop charger could output a higher wattage

iPhone 12 which is 86000 doesn't have a telephoto lens..so I don't think it's a bummer.. overall OnePlus 9 is great phone according to me

The 1990s were a lost decade for reusable space flight because instead of chasing incremental improvements to the Space Shuttle (an orbiter with reusable tiles that could be turned around in days, not months) or something like the Falcoln 9 or the fly-back version of Saturn V that O'Neill's students drew in 1979, it was all about SSTO. SSTO is just marginally possible, if it is possible you need exotic materials and engines and you're never going to get a good payload fraction and adding wings, horizontal takeoff, horizontal landing and such just makes it worse. The one good thing about it is that you get closer to "aircraft-like operations" because in principle you can inspect it, refill it, and relaunch it -- whereas something like the STS or Falcoln 9 or Starship will require stacking up multiple parts for each launch. My guess is aerospikes are making a comeback though because of interest in hypersonic weapons system. I could also see them being useful for the second stage of something like Starship which mostly operates at high altitudes but has to land at low altitudes. There are a lot of other technical problems, like the thermal management system, which really have to be solved before worrying about that optimization.

The cameras on the Pro versions used to be so good, then starting around one-plus 9 they really went downhill. I have photos in my archive from my OP8 Pro that look much better than those taken with the OP13. Coinciding with Samsung nerfing the Ultra (aside from the bloatware) - it's not looking like a great landscape for Android Phones.

the AXD301 ATM switch achieved nine nines over a nine-month period using Erlang and BEAM in 2002. That calculates out to 24 milliseconds of downtime. This is misleading. I had an old Dell computer in my garage hosting a php app that hit that level of uptime as well over a 9 month period. It was 100% so actually better. Those uptime numbers only hold water when spread over many thousands to millions of users where you’re at large enough scale that you’re actually dealing with a meaningful volume of hardware failures.
