OnePlus 8

Oppo is great, same company as OnePlus. I have the base Find X9 and I'm super happy with it. It's fast, it stays cool, and the battery lasts forever(had it for 8 months now and I still haven't finished a single day with less than 50% battery left, it's nuts)

I'm the one who watched this on my One plus 8 and anna today we have received another update to stabilize some minor flaws and mentioned battery stability will be much hugh now 🥰🥰🙏🙏👍👍♥️♥️♥️

I have also seen this in Androids (I tested this on multiple devices - S23U, OnePlus 6,8) , whenever I completely turned off the swap , the phone after a day or two of heavy usage would sometimes hang! It felt unintuitive since these devices had lot of RAM, and they shouldn't need swap . But turning off swap has always degraded performance for me.

I use syncthing a lot too and yes it used to be perfect on my OnePlus 6 with lineage, but on my new Pixel 8 on stock I can't seem to get it too stay opened it always get killed even though I'm pretty sure I disabled every battery saving things for it

I bought it with my own money, so I can’t feel as bad as I do with the OnePlus 8. It’s good and all, but like, I totally missed an opportunity. I even considered selling it back in early 2024, but decided not to due to how much value it lost in only a year and a half.

[...] Since I got it I haven't been fond of the restrictions which I guess piled up over 7-11, particularly the hell I faced when I wanted to update (but am now avoiding any more updates due to the Anti-Rollback Protection thing they're rolling out). It's still a very sturdy and performant device and I don't intend to upgrade for maybe another 8 years, but I'm already looking to move to another brand (NOT Samsung nor Google) when the time inevitably comes.

And they apparently didn't even learn all that much: literally this week, but with hot chocolate and an 8-year old: Maybe this time they won't go on a PR campaign against the victim (it's also the UK where you only get real damages, so they probably won't care enough, no million pound lawsuits here even if it was as serious as the original case, which it isn't). There's definitely a balance between hot drink being hot and absolutely scalding, especially when you know you're going to be handing it into a vehicle from a window. And it's not an especially onerous thing to turn the temperature down, and as you say, no one likes getting 98 degree paper cup of lava that you can't even sip for 10 minutes. They say they did control the temperature, so maybe it's indeed all on the customers, but I do know I have been given some really hot hot drinks in paper cups that seem excessive.

You misunderstood my comment.. this level of "support" is based on hacks = volunteer work, where the community working together (for free) is able to support one device "almost" completely after only 8 years, relying on hacks/reverse engineering etc.. But it's not like OnePlus or Qualcomm officially supports that, right? They didn't have any deal with any OEM where there would be someone employed to support the OS.. (even though they receive donations) Like, all this is.. not serious.. the closest alternative to Android/iOS is GrapheneOS, because there are full-time employees AND they have a partnership with Motorola, so they won't have to rely on any hacks.. well obviously that's unaffordable but it's a different story.

You misunderstood my comment.. this level of "support" is based on hacks = volunteer work, where the community working together (for free) is able to support one device "almost" completely after only 8 years, relying on hacks/reverse engineering etc.. I guess you have not seen any of actual Qualcomm code yet to say that, Qualcomm code is really what you would define as a pile hacks. Made by hardware engineers with no regards for code quality, maintainability or mainlinability. OnePlus 6 comparatively is almost mainlined properly from start to finish, with a level of quality that you have nowhere in the mobile world. Sure this smartphone a bit older but remember the Nokia N900 is still supported and it went out in 2009. Mainlining mobile devices is very hard, but that's not hacks, that's how it's supposed to be done.

What? Generic-sensor API is a candidate recommendation from Devices and Sensors Working Group at the w3c, "intended to become a w3c recommendation". That's like 85% of the sensors. This seems incredibly weird to quibble over. I'm struggling to see great difficulties in Background Fetch and Background Sync, specs from 6 years ago. WebKit's big fear in their position was that maybe a background fetch for a user who changes networks leaks more data than expected... Ok, maybe, yeah, but also an incredibly tiny corner case that'll affect like 1e-8% of uses. FUD FUD FUD. Go read the mailing list folks; figure out for yourself what if anything seems so onerous & terrible about what's happening. By all means, freak out & share if you have concerns. But this looks like a very useful benefit to us all, happening day by day, getting as much consensus and buy in as they can, to me.

Meanwhile, everyone else is wasting months getting up to speed on the latest and greatest thing every 8 years or so. Yeah I used to think this way, because you're right: becoming proficient in emacs takes significant effort and time. But becoming proficient in VS code takes maybe 25 minutes. 25 minutes to change IDEs every 8 years or so doesn't seem like an onerous requirement to me. Emacs just has extremely poor defaults and out of box UX.

Im also using Oneplus 8....and its true that its camera really struggled a lot in lowlight....but i love its oxygen os♥️♥️ The gaming experience is insane😍

I have been running custom Android, mostly Cyanogen and Lineage, since the G1. I went G1 Nexus 1 Samsung S4 S5 OnePlus 5 Pixel 8. I won't buy a phone if it's not community supported.
