OM System OM-1

The camera's I've owned (Canon and, in more recent years, Olympus/OM System) all could do RAW, JPG, or RAW+JPG, or in some cases cRAW+JPG, with several quality settings available for the JPG side. But remember, on a camera you're wanting to maximize battery life, image quality and certain key performance metrics. The OM-1 Mk II can burst up to 120fps of 20 megapixel images with locked focus or 50fps with continuous AF. [...] I think we want cameras to optimize for that. [...]

Only the OM-3 is somewhat exciting, but it sacrifices too much in terms of ergonomics to achieve an aesthetic I don't care about. [...] As it is, it's just a prettier om-1 with worse ergonomics. I should note that I already have a pen-f, and don't have any issue with its ergonomics (I used it yesterday on -5ºC with big gloves, it was fine). [...]

[...] My OM1 can be tethered. I tried shooting with the camera connected over USB to a Windows computer, and it worked perfectly. It also claims it's able to do the same via wifi when you connect it to an access point (instead of its integrated AP mode). I don't really have a use for this functionality, so I didn't bother to type my wifi password on the camera to try it out, so I can't comment on how well it works. [...] It's somewhat slower than with the Olympus software under Windows, but I can change random parameters, such as shutter speed, aperture, and white balance. I can move the focus manually, which will trigger the zoom-in helper (it's how the camera is configured to behave when manipulating it directly). Taking a picture copies both JPG and RAW files (camera is setup to capture both) instantly. Edit: on an iPhone, I can use PhotoSync instead of the OI Share app to retrieve pictures over Wi-Fi. "I don’t know if this is a problem that is specific to OM System cameras, and I’m not particularly interested in investing in a new camera system just to find out." A better way to have further narrowed down the problem down to Actually iPhoto would've been to do the same tests with a USB-C card reader plugged directly into the Mac, which would've eliminated cables, hubs, and camera hardware/software/firmware as possibilities. It's worth noting that searches show that OM-1 USB support is imperfect, the camera manual addresses that "USB transfers aren’t guaranteed in some setups", and user consensus seems to be to use a card reader for reliable file transfers.

Nikkor-P.C 85mm f/2, OM SYSTEM OM-1. f/2 and ISO 6400 and I still only got a 1/20 shutter speed. I can see my laptop reflected in his eye.

Meh, I love my Olympus cameras, but I wouldn't call the latest models exactly small. The OM1 is pretty huge, even though it's smaller than the ridiculous Panasonic G9. [...]

Does the camera actually support tethering? [...] The om1 works better with the app. Apparently, when connecting to an external AP, it supports WPS, both PIN and button, instead of typing the full password. [...] Interestingly, the transfer from the camera seems slower with OM Capture than with Darktable, but it can configure basically all the camera's settings, including the High-Res, HDR bracketing, etc. It can also tell the camera to not save the files on its card (or configure which format goes on which card).

I have an R5.1 and I have used the Pixel Shift mode maybe twice, just to see what it did. Like most cameras with this capability the scene has to be completely still, which is very rare for the type of photography I do (even architecture often has moving clouds or reflections). My Olympus OM-1 also has a similar mode with a similar experience. I also do not want any AI generation in my cameras. I want my cameras to take the photo I told it to make, and not to fake a photo it thinks I wanted to take.

Interesting- I have an OM-1 mk1 and similarly I've never found a decent use case for that mode.
