Nikon Z 50

I picked up an IBM WorkPad z50[1] in 2000 at a fire sale price. It felt in many ways like good laptops do today: small, light, quiet (no fan nor spinning disk), instant-on, long battery life, reliable. [...]

I bought the Z50 and have used it for a couple of years now and have been pretty happy with it. It's not top of the line by any standard, but it does what I need at a very comfortable price.

I bought this stupid Z50 camera when released. I was so much disappointed, auto focus was sooo bad, I thought Nikon made this camera as a joke. [...] Than I just waited for firmware updates so it can improve but nothing much. [...]

I currently own the Z50 for couple of years and it a great travel camera. [...] Unfortunately Nikon is so far behind Canon and Sony that they need several new camera bodies to compete. I think base on their history of introducing one camera (Z9); I don't include the Z30 (as real camera). They will introduce one camera in 2023 and your guess is as good as mine.

I actually like the direction Nikon is going with Z50. I am devoted to my two D750s for professional use but am not ready to go Z6 or Z7. I’m several years off from upgrading; however, I am in market for personal use camera so Z50 could be gateway to Z mount.

Absolutely, the new Z50 II is bigger and bulkier and has that flimsy flippy screen. [...] I skipped the kit lens and just got the Nikon Z50 body and have a TTArtisan 23mm f1.8 AF lens coming soon. You can also use old Nikkor Q lenses with a cheap dummy FTZ mount. [...] For video you can't beat a mirrorless camera. [...]

Tony, Have you had the camera in your hands? It seems like some harsh comments without actually having touched the camera. I used some of the Canon M cameras for a few years but became frustrated with the lenses and what Canon's lens plan was for the camera. [...] Yes this is true in the short run they only have 2 lens but from a studio's point of view when you have the ff mirrorless cameras you only have to buy one type of lenses, yes they are much heavy and you have some down sides but for a small buissnes that is starting up and want to go with Nikon's system this is ok they can use the z50 on a gimbal for video and use the same ff lens. [...] I shoot sony for a while and don't plan on going back to nikon, actualy the reason I went with sony was because nikon did not manage to put 2 Card slots in the Z camera. [...] And form what I hear Nikon mirrorless cameras are very good as video cameras so this is an advantage over the Canon at least, and getting close to sony. But at this step I have to agree with you this is not the perfect camera for someone that is just looking to buy a mirrorless aps-c camera. Sony has a very large collection of APS-C native and 3rd party lens, and the af system is very good in the newer cameras + you can get a body with ibis for around the cost of a Z50+F2Z. [...] I think this is a camera for someone who has invested in DX lens and is looking for a new body and dose not do pro work, as I thnk that you must have 2 card slots (I know that this is a debate option but at long as the option), this is a must have option in our days as it's not that expensive to do that. Also I dont understand why brands like nikon sony canon dont go with much better displays as they can install oled touchscreen pannels on the back of the camera, and thats not that hard to do today. The Z50 is a great idea. We can expect to see some other Z APC camera’s I can imagine a Z40 that omits the EVF with say a 23mm pancake and you have a pocketable high quality street camera. I’m not in the market for a camera, but when I am, I will give the Z-line-up a look, including the Z50.

I’d love to try the Z50, this is the first time I really got curious about a Nikon camera.

I have been using Nikon for the past 10 years and my first one was D7000 and i still have with half a dozen lenses and also own Z6, i am happy that Nikon listens to their customers and sticking to unified lens mount rather one based on the sensor, i have met few wildlife photographers who are using Nikon owns D5 (FF) and D500 (APS-C) but we wonder why coz APS-C sensor on D500 gives little more zoom and less processing power on the sensor read-out making way for deeper buffer. I love the 16mm flange distance on the Z mount, may be in future we will have adapter for drop-in filters, techart has released adapter to use sony lenses with autofocus, more possibilities with the new Z mount, D500 users can try Z50 with FTZ and still wont lose anything, easier transition is very important when a company designs their product.

I think Nikon are doing the right thing as you can use the ff Z lenses and get a ftz adapter and use your dx lenses. Not everyone wants or needs a ff camera. I am definitely interested in buying the Z50

I downloaded the Nikon utility software to try to use my Z50 as a webcam....can't find the software and can't get it to work as a webcam.....I need help

I have been working with the Z50 and it have made miracles. But also I had a lot of problems with it like the in-build flash stopped working. ...external flash.....and a lot of other minor problems which became really anoying!
