The laptop isn't running Linux yet, I'm not confident the battery lifetime story is great. [...] I was under the impression that some windows or driver update had fixed this, but apparently not. This never happened on linux, ever, which is my main os for this particular machine since day one and I never turn off the laptop, only reboot it for a kernel update. The Intel one is fairly reliable on Windows, but it did crash a few times (garbled screen). Battery life on the Intel model is better under linux (around +25%). On the Amd I can't comment, since I rarely use it on windows, and basically never on battery. At the office I have a 27" 5k screen which I have to use at 200%. [...] The only way to be sure to have sharp output is by booting it up with the screen attached. Which then goes to hell when the screen shuts off (think going to the toilet). And I like my PSVita/PSTV, iPhone (using the excellent GameSir G8 controller), and iPad (also great for games.) Nonetheless, Switch has been incredibly successful and I expect Switch 2 will be a hit as well.

Right, and if you go from the actual definition of social murder, basically everybody in the G8 is a murderer, unless you artificially confine the analysis to your own county. I'm sure the concept has a lot of utility philosophically, but when you try to distill it down to "PE firm owners are murderers" you wind up in pretty crazy places unless you supply a lot of motivated reasoning and special pleading.

China and India will never agree on substantive issues. And the US and Russia do? (G8) South Afica is the largest economy in Africa, 13% of the continent's GDP. Your views on its political state doesn't change that. And honestly, as an American, I can't say my country is doing better than SA. Sure they have more crime, but at least they don't have a military force dedicated to ethnic-cleansing migrants . Lol, sad times.

I'm still using a 32" 1368x768 TV, LG G8 phone from 2019, and my main driver is a 10.5" Surface Go 3 that I picked up used. Wired earphones are JVC HA-FXD80 (discontinued or I'd buy another pair) works great with the Quad-DAC in the G8. I do have a desktop PC with a 2-core Intel CPU and a Radeon of some kind that's liquid cooled in a bland black PC case. Just enough to run StarCraft 2 well.

No, the stat I am working from is "homicides", not "gun deaths"; I'm just inferring that guns drive those homicides. I will leave you with this: our health care system has the same structure in basically all 50 states. But CVD outcomes vary wildly among states: Minnesota, California, Massachusetts, and Colorado have outcomes that exceed those in the rest of the G8, while Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Alabama are so bad they drag the whole country down. Health insurers in Oregon and Rhode Island don't function differently than they do in Alabama. No part of our life expectancy gap has anything to do with health insurance.

I approve of measures like this provided they actually follow through and support mass transit initiatives. We've had 100 years of bad ideas that we need to undo. (specifically related to this issue) This feels similar to the decision to eliminate the penny. "A lot of people won't like this change, but it's the right thing to do and about time we did it." I know of few G8 countries that take those kinds of steps. Now if they could only work on serious day-to-day emergencies that are crippling this country.

Thrown in the hat on imaginary numbers to trade up for quality of life. The horror. I gave 2 countries as an example where quality of life is decreasing because they ignored the very real numbers. Yes, their happiness was quite high for awhile. If I were to take a generic imaginary G8 country where im tracking only happiness and let these real numbers slip. Happiness is going go sky high temporarily, until those real numbers matter a great deal. Then you have a collapse, like we are seeing. They are now living a horror situation.
