[...] I did close out my Facebook account in 2016 and I created a new one to go with my Meta Quest 3 last year. [...]

I've had my Q3 for over a year and continue to love it. [...] My one big complaint is that I wish it had a display port input for uncompressed PCVR display. [...] I also understand that Meta is trying to push the standalone side of VR gaming, and that is where their real money is made. [...]
Keeping my eye on the price. [...] The wifi thing is a little bothersome, but honestly, the pancake lenses and the removal of the sensor rings in the controllers are the things I'm most interested in. [...]
No. Its not. I've had mine for about 6 months, and have used it a grand total of six times.
[...] Also for first time users...a replacement controller cost a 1/3 of the unit at $189.00
[...] I nuked my Facebook account in 2016 but made one a year ago to go with my Meta Quest 3. [...]

[...] Even the Meta Quest 3 can render much better. [...]
I use probably 70% Windows, 20% iPad, 5% Meta Quest 3 [1], and 5% MacOS -- for the latter though it is mostly "test that something works on MacOS" and "tech support for the computer the family uses". [...] [1] I've got some web applications I wrote that run perfectly on the MQ3, especially after I got target sizes up to WCAG AAA level and it is fun to put the headset on and crash out on the couch and get things done
I'm running Qwen3.5:0.8b locally on an Orangepi Zero 2w using llama.cpp, runs just fine on cpu only. If I want vulkan GPU I have run qwen3.5:2b locally on a meta quest 3 with zeroclaw and saved myself hundreds of $$$ buying a low power computer. I recommend people stop shopping around for inflated mac minis and look at getting a used android phone to load local models on.
I use my Meta Quest 3 with Termux & Termux X11 to run full desktop apps, and it works like a charm. No emulation, too! Native ARM64!
[...] I’m a VR enthusiast with a Meta Quest 3, and it’s a shame that this headset is better than the Quest in every way except the most important one. [...] Right now it’s not worth it, and I don’t think it ever will be, no matter how good the graphics get. [...] So the controls have to become really stiff and avoid requiring wide movement, at which point you might as well just push buttons on a gamepad. [...]
It looks good until I reached one bit: Passthrough - Monochrome passthrough via outward facing cameras This is an outright bone-headed move that I can't believe Valve is making. Only having monochrome cameras means augmented reality is basically a non-starter. [...] I literally bought a Meta Quest 3 just for PianoVision [0] when I already had a Valve Index. [...]
No idea, which is notable because I boot into my Meta Quest 3 most nights for sim racing. You'd think I'd have seen it if they were pushing it. I am glad they don't, the headset should be a general computing device first and foremost, launching apps you choose to participate in.
The Meta Quest 3 has inside-out tracking and no cables so it has a lot of appeal for experiences where you walk around the room, particularly fitness games. I can view complex virtual worlds from my PC with the link cable and it is is practical to carefully move around the living room if I move the furniture but then I have to play in the living room.
I never use YouTube outside of a browser except on the Meta Quest 3 where you can watch panoramic videos with the app. A big factor is that carriers get to pick what OS you run on your phone. My understanding is that it was the end of Windows Phone when US carriers said they weren't going to activate any devices.
In my experience the one big problem on the Quest 3 is the user interface. I am still puzzled why they made a floating taskbar with tiny buttons that you have to hit with VR controllers. I have good eyes, decent hand-eye coordination and don't have shaky hands, yet I manage to hit a button at first try maybe 40% of the time. [...] Meta Quest 3 feels like sci-fi tech with badly executed UI design from the 90s.
It's already making life worse on the Meta Quest 3. [...] Meta is selling much weaker hardware than Apple, so if Apple manages to trick Meta into making a fancier-but-more-expensive interface for their XR headsets, Meta headsets get laggier, less reliable, maybe they screw up and you go VR-to-ER. To little fanfare in the wider world [1], Meta rolled out an update for the MQ3 that adds more transparency. It isn't really bad, it isn't really that fancy, it probably doesn't lag the headset much. [...] It used to be if I wanted to follow somebody I was playing with in Beat Saber I could hit the Meta button and the screen was right there. Now I have to hit the Meta button, and I have to click on the Meta icon, then I have to pick "People" (I think) from the app library, and then it is open to the wrong tab so I have to pick a certain tab and finally I have a choice to follow somebody I'm playing with. Being a leader in social software is not about being good at social software at all, it's just about your customers being locked into a two-sided market. It's about being careless, even about the bottom line -- it's not like they "enshittified" the UI to make money, they just made it worse carelessly and I think they did it to ape Apple. [1] what a luxury it is to be able to live your life unexamined by the breathless -- Thomas Frank pointed out how frickin' lame it was that youth culture was worked over in the media which leaves me feeling today that being a Generation Xer meant I could have my youth (and middle age) without being a bug on a slide.
Never mind the fact that desktop apps for the birds. Microsoft won't even tell you what widget set to use post the failure of Metro, "use Electron" seems about as official as anything else. From day one I planned to use my RSS reader on both desktop computers and a tablet (via Tailscale) and when I got a Meta Quest 3 I found it worked great on that although enlarging touch target to the AAA standard helped a lot.
I visited a relative last summer and tried on their Meta Quest 3 headset, the first time I ever tried a modern VR headset. [...] Your comment has prompted my response because it reminded me that I thought Shazam was great too, and it made me think of what more recent incredible technological experiences I've had. [...]
In my experience, web applications make good iPad applications. And if you hit WCAG AAA standards they even make good XR applications for the Meta Quest 3. I don't have much interest in learning how to make iOS-only apps, not least because the app store puts the brakes on plain-ordinary software development, never mind vibe coding.
[...] These work great on desktop, great on iPad, pretty good on Android and sorta OK on phones where the screen size is a little too small. I even found out they work great on the Meta Quest 3, where it isn't a real XR app but I can view and sort images on three great big monitors hanging in my room or in a Japanese temple [1] For years I had a series of bottom-of-the-line Android phones that left me thinking that "app" is a contraction of "crap" as opposed to "application". [...] On the iPhone a number of factors come together for the app to be worthwhile but I think it was never true on the iPad and web applications have long been undervalued, even though the experience of most web apps on the iPad, even if they weren't designed for it, is the definition of "just works". It's an astonishing mistake that Apple never caught up with the Microsoft Surface and made the iPad Pro compatible with Mac applications, from a hardware reason there is no reason why not other than Apple thinks anyone who buys a Pro is made of money and can afford a macbook too -- it's like the way Digital struggled in the microcomputer age because they were afraid that cheap microcomputers compatible with the PDP-11 or VAX would cut off their minicomputer business. It's hard to say what part of the Vision Pro failure was "too expensive" (the Meta Quest consumer thinks the MQ3 is too expensive) vs the moral judgement that using controllers is like putting your hand in a toilet; the MQ3 shows you can make great fully immersive games and experiences if you have controllers... At Vision Pro prices the
I have an RSS reader that learns my preferences the way TikTok does. Got an image sorter based on the same principles. (What a blast to be viewing and sorting images on three huge web browser windows in my Meta Quest 3) As for coffee I just pour my own drip coffee at the cafe that is between the bus stop and my office or I go to the gas station near home or the 7-11 in Collegetown and 'order' it off a touch screen like
I think it's amusing that optic fiber connectors have had so little success in the market though I have a few TOSLINK and the coaxial equivalent in my upstairs home theater (I have a Sony 300 disc CD changed packed with DTS 5.1 Music Discs so I'm living the surround music dream) and downstairs (computer to stereo, computer to minidisc recorder, etc.) I recently got a cable to hook up a Meta Quest 3 to a PC for PCVR. My understanding is that works like a high-spec USB 3 cable but has an optic fiber in it for the data so it can be really long.
[...] That software has been through some rewrites and revisions and now I use it as an RSS reader and as an "image sorter", boy was it fun to be viewing and sorting images in it with three huge windows with my Meta Quest 3 last night.
[...] The other day I thought I might try it on the Meta Quest 3 and it "just worked"; it could use a little enlargement of UI targets in accordance with Fitt's law but it works great now and with a little customization but being surrounded with three huge windows already feels halfway to "minority report" In a world where web-based apps are effortlessly portable to platforms I wasn't even thinking about, it's hard to justify any investment in an application that doesn't have those wings. [...]
I work lying down using my Meta Quest 3 sometimes when my back gets sore. I love it.
[...] Personally I got the 3DS around the time that my presbyopia got bad but I thought the images looked really great with my reading glasses. [...] (I'm a little sad that I never got to see You don't lose quality in principle from this scheme but you do lose brightness and the real answer is "it's complicated" when you change the frame rate. [...] My best 3D viewer right now is a Meta Quest 3 on which I've watched Space Station 3D and The Rise of Skywalker though sometimes I think about picking up a used 3D TV. If a monitor or TV supports high frame rates you could get 3D for free if it wasn't for the shutter glasses being rather expensive.
I watched 9 in 3-d on my Meta Quest 3. [...]

I hardly ever shop at Amazon anymore because (1) so many of the product listings are word salad, and (2) I've complained and they tell me they don't care. I opened a Facebook account to use with a Meta Quest 3; I haven't otherwise used Facebook or added friends but it generates a feed for me anyway that looks like subprime spam from after the heat death, on a level of "sketchy" well past the come-ons for pig butchering scams I get on Skype.
[...] How do I fix a meta quest 3 stuck in a loop of trying to "install necessary components" without giving you the option to connect to new wifi? I have not been given access to the account tied to the device, so no I can't use my phone. [...]
So ive had a quest 2 since launch (still has oculus at the front of it lols) and never followed with anything vr related after that. Ive just brought a meta quest 3 for £202 and im really really excited
If you have a good phone, gamenative is a really good alternative to the steam deck. I played half of Persona 4 golden on my phone & Meta Quest 3 via gamenative!
I love wearing the Meta Quest 3 while driving. [...] I can charge it while driving from the USB - C port in the dashboard. [...]
Got the quest 3 512gb with Batman for 350. [...]
yo i have an issue with my quest 3s.for some reason i keep seeing blurry text for the quest 3s despite being in the sweet zone so i really don't know what to do.Should i use my sidequest in order to increase the text resolution and if there are any settings that can help with that and the annoying god rays i keep getting
I’ve had a quest 2 since the year it came out and I use it all the time. I’m hoping to upgrade to the three this year due to the controllers finally reaching their end of life, and because I’d rather have a more up to date headset. I would 100 percent recommend a quest headset to anyone.
I got a severe headache..plus VRChat kind of stinks on Meta Quest 3..what is going on with it...??
I bought my Quest 3 about a week ago… Holy shit it’s straight out of Black Mirror… This is the future guys. I bought a good amount of Meta stock last night LOL
I got my 97 year old grandma the meta quest 3 and she is HOOKED
Decided to plunge for Quest 3 ahead of the 3S (which I regard as quest 2.5) version as I owned a quest 2 and I loved the experiences more than the gaming side but wanted that in top vision which nearly happened whilst I wore the quest 2 but not quite so I sold it...Need the vision and the power to move forward now!!
My experience with VR/AR headsets in general, is that they will be a novelty for the first month or so and then will become like any gaming device, you use it when you are in the mood to, so I personally think that for the price point it is well worth it,
I totally disagree with not using the quest to watch 2d content. It's how I watch all sports and Netflix now with multiple screens all over the room
my quest 3 refuses to stay connected to wifi even though I have great wifi so I need to use my quest 2
I finally just got one. I'm looking forward to the new Batman game and Metro Awakening
I bought one today, mainly because though i love vr my current headset was getting more and more problems as it was still the oculus rift
I received the quest 3 today and I ONLY purchased it because I’ve noticed my Quest 2 getting hot and glitching since the updates. I don’t use it enough for that to even happen so it has to be from the update. Also I think it’s wrong to give an option of 128 or 512 gb knowing what most people will do and with a price tag of almost $700 for the larger gb is WILD! [...]
worst part is that i cannot buy any games on quest 3 because of some paypal glitch. so many other people have reported this porblem too but no fix yet.

“With every VR release I check the resolution per eye to see if I can use it as a work desktop replacement. IMO the current Meta Quest 3 is not there, and this roughly matches it. [...] Unfortunately, i think the screen stack at that level is well outside mobile usecases so there is kind of a chicken and egg. Manufacturers don't want to work on advanced VR display tech without demand, and it can't be used for work purposes until display tech improves.”

“[...] Uploading photos on Instagram is much more of a hassle (takes much longer) than it is on the unfunded web Mastodon client which is developed by open source fanatics who'd I'd expect to have zero empathy for ordinary users. I like the idea of the Meta Quest 3 but so many things, particularly the social features, are terribly thought out and if you're delighted that something works now there's a good chance it will regress next week.
