Lenovo Legion 5

I needed a machine that a) could run Logic Pro (the finest music-editing software available to humanity), b) had a high-resolution screen for my lousy eyesight, and c) had a 1-terabyte hard drive. [...] So I took my brother's advice, which I also use for TVs and what else: buy the cheapest brand that offers the specs. All sellers are required to provide 2 years of warranty and at entry level price, worst case you can buy a brand new and better spec'd device if it breaks just after 2 years. But it usually lasts a lot more, by pure statistics: to ensure it lasts 2 years on average, it must me a lot more sturdy than that. [...] - I don't care about laptop's screen and weight. I'm a professional software developer which means 99.9% of the time the laptop sits on my desktop hooked to one or two 27 inch 4k monitors, along with a proper keyboard and mouse. [...] When you look at LinkedIn pictures, people are being served the fairy tale of the "developer" who programs in bed or on a couch or in a coffee shop sipping a latte ... [...] I can take the laptop WITHOUT LOSING WARRANTY, open it and add more RAM and another SSD. Which means that the price of getting a 32 Gb of RAM machine is now about $30-50$ more and not another time the price I paid for the laptop! Last laptop I bought was a Lenovo Legion 5, AMD Ryzen 5 6

My laptop is on its last legs after three years of operation; I was using a Lenovo Legion 5; looking to upgrade and be able to cannibalize parts from this lappy in the next one - because by last legs I mean its the frame/hinges/keyboard fading on me. Anyone know a good upgrade to recommend?

I have a Lenovo Legion 5 laptop and I love it. I use it for all kinds of dev work running Windows 11 and WSL. [...] It has a very nice keyboard and the nicest touchpad I've ever used. [...] In comparison with those, you get so much more for your money with the gaming machine. [...] Also the display is top notch.

Next time look into Lenovo. I have a Legion 5 Pro with Ryzen and RTX 3070. Everything just works running Linux.

This put things into perspective. My laptop is a Lenovo Legion 5 15ARH05 and only just started giving problems. And like I said, can't really afford to go big, especially when my only 'high demand' game is XIV which my laptop does run good even with mods.

I've had my lenovo legion 5 less time than my Nintendo switch and I don't plan 2 switch 2 anything else

DAY 24: Current Setup 🔹Lenovo Legion 5 Pro🔹 Not much of a "setup" - only 1 expensive piece of equipment. My appartment doesn't have room for a desk & I don't own a TV, as has been the case for 15 years. I enjoy nuzzling into a blanket on my couch with my laptop & a cat on my legs, and be flexible.

a cheap akai midimix, roland DJ-202, a cheap midiplus 32 key MIDI controller, Lenovo Legion 5 17ACH6, Ableton Live 12 Suite, Virtual DJ Pro - and numerous plugins that emulate hardware I've used over the years and new stuff. I am now mostly entirely "in the box"..... (I have basses and guitars too)

Most gaming was good, but a brand new game (Hogwart's Legacy) had major issues, including crashing and vastly worse performance compared to Windows. Appreciate it but this was like 18 months ago, on a Lenovo Legion 5 which I've since sold to my niece. Main issue was brightness - basically having to reboot Linux twice to get it to work. [...]

Anecdote: My employer recently bought me a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro. Due to concussions and general flicker sensitivity, I don't do well with 60Hz screens, and I prefer AMD CPUs. This one came with a 240Hz screen. [...] Bluetooth was unreliable. [...] Two support calls, but all they did was reinstall a bunch of the driver updates I had already reinstalled (and they installed Geforce Experience because Vantage said it was available.) Unsurprisingly, none of that fixed the issue. The next step was a factory reset and/or replacement, which would've been a big PITA because of time I already spent doing setup. [...] Instead, I spent $23 on an Intel AX210 WLAN/Bluetooth chip, and performed the replacement (of a Realtek chip) in well under 10 minutes. [...]
