Kindle Oasis

I've had a Boox Page for about two years now as a Kindle Oasis replacement (current model is Boox Go 7 B&W). I get a bit more than a week of battery life typically which is good enough for me. [...]

[...] Tracking down epub files on my PC then transferring to the device multiple times a week sounds a bit frustrating as an alternative. Also they support kindles for a long time, my kindle oasis from 2016 that I bought used still is supported, and the things battery also somehow is still in good shape.

[...] And now my Oasis battery is starting to fade - it doesn't more than a few days anymore - and somehow it feels weird considering buying the same thing again - or pry open the back off and try to replace it - though who knows what that would do to it's water resistance. If you do have to replace, you might look into the Kobo e-readers. I bought a Libra Colour when my Kindle Oasis (RIP) died a couple years ago and I haven't looked back. It's been really durable and Kobo actually has a decent warranty and you can repair things yourself if it comes to it.

Between KOReader, SSH, and Tailscale, something completely wrecked the battery life of my Kindle Oasis, and introduced frequent reboots/crashes. That was a previous implementation, maybe things have improved.

Nice. I wish it had a bigger screen and buttons, though. Kindle Oasis was the sweet spot for me.

My Kindle Oasis might be the last micro usb device I own. I always said I’d buy the usb-c version the day they released one. Instead they discontinued it :(

What i did is, jailbreak [1] my Kindle Oasis, and install KOreader [2]. This gives you full access to upload whatever ebook you want (SSH, WebDav, Syncthing, ...) and it can fetch RSS feeds (i use it with FreshRSS.) PS. The (very old) Kindle Oasis is still the best device there is to read on in my opion. [...] It has 2 phyisical buttons to turn the page, and an ambient light sensor to auto adjust the brightness, and a 300 PPI display. [...]

I just installed it on my Kindle Oasis. No way to just replicate the Kindle view of all my books in a list regardless of directory, and the real killer was that it doesn't invert page turn buttons when the display is rotated. PRs welcome, I'm sure, but I had to give up on it.

If they ever make a Kobo like the Kindle Oasis, I'll switch. Until then, I'm holding onto the best e-reader experience I've ever had.

I've done the opposite. While I love the openness of the kobo and the pocket integration, I end up using my kindle oasis more because of the form factor and because with the metal enclosure it feels better in my hand.

Two things that are stopping me from buying a PocketBook: 1. Android (privacy...) 2. No light sensor to automatically adjust screen brightness to surroundings (i currently have the Kindle Oasis 3, jailbroken, running KOreader.)

Similar 2-device story here. Love my Kindle Oasis for reading books, and rely on my reMarkable 2 tablet for writing / notes -- driven by a hyperpaper-based daily planner (its navigable pdfs are a game-changer).

I've been using a Kobo Clara Color for several months. I love the size and functionality, but the color isn't that big a deal since I'm not reading picture books. I used to use a Kindle Oasis, but I like Kobo's software better than Amazon's, so I switched.

Every light in your link advertises (!) its multiple brightness and color settings. I use KOreader on a Kindle Oasis, and i just always keep Wi-Fi enabled and it works perfectly…

Nice, still looks pretty sharp. I'm debating whether or not to upgrade my Kindle Oasis, which I love, for a colour model.

I hated that too, thankfully you can just make it disappear in my kindle oasis.

Oh no, my Kindle Oasis might be dying. The device upon which all my three books were built (via reading many, many PDFs). Looks like I might switch to Kobo now.

Update: there is a new jailbreak called ‘nosebleed’ that worked for my Kindle Oasis. Highly recommend doing it if your firmware is compatible kindlemodding.org Otherwise, Amazon can remote-delete your non-mobi books at any time

Does anyone have any strong opinions about e-readers that aren’t Kindles? My Kindle Fire freezes every two pages when I read, and my Kindle Oasis jumps to random pages when I read I want to be able to use by CloudLibrary app and to be able to read the device outdoors

I don't want to admit how many kindles I own, but I have resurrected my favorite, my kindle oasis. It took a lot trying and wall charging, and pressing down the power button for five minutes at a time over multiple days... But somehow it worked.

I have cracked my Kindle Oasis screen, it’s the 2nd or 3rd one, should I replace with another oasis or a new paper white?

I have this, and I LOVE it. To not be locked to one store is just a huge plus for me, especially since Amazon does not allow downloading of purchased books anymore. I've since sold my Kindle Oasis.
