iPhone 8

Still got a MacBook Pro (2019) and iMac (2019) running just fine. The iPhone 8 finally died. I think it was almost 10 years old.

I am typing this on a 9 year old iPhone 8 Plus. Battery was replaced once after 6 years, replacement battery is still lasting more than a day. Apps are slowly losing support for it, but other than that it mostly does what I want, and still gets security updates for really bad stuff. [...]

i kind of miss the simplicity of the first iPhone i bought for myself, a refurbished iPhone 8 around 2021, it was just so well-rounded and solid nostalgia has got my brain pondering picking up a refurbished 3rd gen iPhone SE just to relive it

I have had my iPhone 8 since 2018 and I'm annoyed that I need to replace it. Now get off my lawn.

I finally had to get rid of my iphone 8 when a bunch of apps I needed stopped working. Almost 10 years. But I am still not up-to-date as I got a free iphone 11 from a friend.

My phone timeline: Nokia 5310 XpressMusic (4yr) Samsung Galaxy S II (2yr) Sony Xperia M2 (3yr) iPhone 8 (2yr) iPhone 11 (2yr) iPhone 13 Pro (2yr) iPhone 15 Pro (2yr) iPhone 17 Pro (expected 2yr)

What really annoys me is Apple EOLed the iPhone 8 and then came out with a virtually identical SE version. Of course they soon discontinued the SE too… Maybe they updated the CPU slightly but screen and camera were identical. I would have kept my iPhone 8 if they kept updating the software. Yet somehow they can manage update the SE software despite looking the same as the iPhone 8… I know there is a cost and overhead toward supporting old platforms. But for the premium on these devices and the level of waste generated, manufacturers can still do better… I’d prefer no new features and only security updates… perhaps I’m weird.

Besides Touch ID I'd be really hard pressed to tell you something my current iPhone can do that the iPhone 8+ couldn't, let alone something it can do that I use.

My previous phone was the iphone 8. It’s trully a world of difference in usability compared to the iPhone 13 I’m using now. I have big hands, so I can ise the latter one-handed, but a lot of people I’ve seen don’t.

Apple watches work as walkie-talkies with separate accounts and paired phones. I used a retired iPhone 8 and eBay'd a watch for $40.

An iPhone SE 2023 - it still gets current iOS version updates. My iPhone 8 is also still running (using iOS 16) but still gets security updates.

I have an iPhone 8. It does literally everything you've listed, and the battery is cheap/easy to replace. My lg v30, with a battery replacement is about the same (albiet with a custom os since androids didn't get many years of updates back then)

I have an iPhone 8 still in service and compared to an equally old Android device, the Android (some kind of Motorola eX series low end phone) runs circles around the iPhone. I donated my iPhone 8 a few years ago and it’s still going strong, at least from what I heard last time earlier this year. Honestly impressive how long these older iPhones keep up, both in performance and battery life (still original battery)

The iPhone 8 was peak iPhone. I’m on my second iPhone 8 and am posting from it now. I did also like the original iPhone SE mostly because of the size, but the haptics make the the iPhone 8, along with having a bezel, square screen, and home button.

i think i have to finally cave and get a new phone. i have the iphone xs max and my husband is using my old iphone 8+ 🧍‍♀️ my phone doesn’t charge for long because it overheats and my husband can’t update apps LOL ugh

The last pair of wired headphones I bought was probably in 2017 when I had my iPhone 8 Plus. The fact that these bitches still sound good 😮‍💨

I have been using the iPhone 8 lately and I do have to say this is the ultimate size for a phone.

Ha! When people talk about potato photos, I know now that they're talking about images taken by a potato and that are of a much higher quality than any I've taken with my pos iphone 8+. These days there could be an alien spaceship landing & all I had was my phone = I simply wouldn't bother.

Also I’m using a rented portable charger cause my phone was on 4% when I got back to south station and I need my phone alive to scan my train ticket. This is a personal lesson I learned tonight I have an iPhone 8 I need to bring my portable charger with me if I cross Providence’s borders

My phone (iPhone 8) is gonna need to be replaced soon. It won’t update the iOS anymore so some apps are outdated and won’t open - just yesterday this happened with my PC Mastercard app so I can’t see the balance. I don’t want a new phone 😭

this probably isn't news for most of you, but HOLY FUCKTURDS phones are a lot more expensive than they were when I bought my iPhone 8!!!!

ok so for the past like, 3-4 weeks(?) my old iphone was basically a barely working brick for some reason the Iphone 8 had a problem where the IOS would take up like 85% of my phones storage and i could barely do anything with it but i got a new one finally :D

I still use my son’s old iPhone 8 at times. 😜 And I didn’t trade in my iPhone 11 when I bought my iPhone air 17 Because it’s now the default back up battery😂

HODLing my iPhone 8 here. I can’t use a lot of apps, but Venmo and Lyft work on it still.

My iPhone 8 just stopped working 2 months back (phone works but the microphone used in phone calls no longer works) so by chance my good friend gave me his pixel 8 that was only a couple few months old. It got a pink line down the screen that comes and goes which if you press in one spot can usually make it go away but he is a business owner and he can't risk the screen going from line to not working for a day as a missed communication could cost him thousands. [...] Seems like this pink line is common and a defect in some screens. Anyways I wanted to say I also have a pixel 8 but with stock OS and my battery typically lasts a full day with average usage. My iPhone 8 previously even with a replacement battery was lucky if it lasted more then 5 hours. I had to charge that thing multiple times a day.

I was once blown away by iPhone 8 editing capabilities. The keyboard seemed to work OK (minus swipe-to-type, but that wasn't great on Android either), and using 3D Touch to move cursor and select text was the most pleasant text editing experience, even better than on the desktop (arrow keys and vim hjkl). And then it was all removed in a software update.

I prefer my old iPhone 8 to the new models, but without the updates it's no longer useful. [...] If I could have a shorter phone (like an iPhone 8 without the bezel) that would be amazing. I tried small Androids in the past, had a Sony Xperia compact (Z1?) and loved it until it very literally fell apart.

i am still on an iphone 8, and i would keep the iphone 8 forever if Apple hadn't planned its obsolescence. i got a cheap used iphone 11 and plan someday to switch over but i think i will just resell that and get one of these and hope i don't lose it

i've had a flip phone for the past two years! i just switched back a little under a month ago, and even then i've been using an iphone 8 which is slow and laggy and still has the button. but a flip phone is absolutely the ideal to me

It might just be that my phone is old (it's an iPhone 8), but other people who presumably don't hang onto their tech forever are reporting similar phenomena
