Just to add a data point: my iPhone 12 Pro Max stands at 82% with optimised charging after 4 years. Not bad at all.

Unless you drop them very hard, cases are not needed anymore. Been using a Iphone 12 pro max for 4 years without a case, I don't even look twice and I drop it from the table.

I got my comparatively-cheaper 2-year-old iPhone 12 Pro Max stolen from me about a year ago in a mugging That is just a dumb mugger since those phones can only be sold for parts given the way Apple locks them down with your password/Pin/Face. The only place those phones can go is on a ship container to China to be recycled for spare parts, and even that's dubious.

This might just be the cynic in me, but people walking around with a $3500+ item attached to their face just screams "rob me!" I mean, I got my comparatively-cheaper 2-year-old iPhone 12 Pro Max stolen from me about a year ago in a mugging, and that wasn't even nearly as flagrant. A person who wants to mug someone sees someone wearing an Apple Vision Pro, and they know that this person has a $3500 item glued to their face, as well probably an expensive iPhone in their pocket as well.

I had my 12 Pro Max in blue from 2020-2023 and honestly it was probably my favorite iPhone I've ever had, although I can't really put my finger on why. I replaced it with a 15 only because my screen broke and it was cheaper to get the new phone than fix the old one. Still rocking the 15.

12 pro max from new in 2020 and I’m still struggling to come up with a good enough reason to upgrade. Yes promotion at 120 would be nice but for practical purposes day by day it still feels responsive and fun to use. As long as it can run latest iOS I think I’ll stick with it and save myself a few hundred for each year additional year that passes 😊

Still hanging with my 12 pro max and wife just wants me to upgrade just because how long I’ve had it but honestly it does everything perfect and I got it with the most gigs they offered when I bought it in 2020 and honestly for what I paid at the time I thought it was a lot and looking at it now I have no regret I have it in perfect condition and even my battery life is %80 and still gets through the day, yes by the time I get home it’s at %20 percent charge but nothing like putting it to charge while a cook or shower and it’s back to %80 in no time😊

Loved the phone. Had the phone for 3 years but had to upgrade to a 15 pm due to a whole system updating issue of IOS 26 which led to a big malfunction to the system that made it unable to be opened, but if it didn’t went through such a problem I would’ve kept the phone for one more year.

Have been using a 12 pro max for the last 4 years as my only phone. Battery health is at 86% and the phone still provides a fluid experience for a whole day (I do not game much on it). Not a fan of the steel rims though.

anyway I bought a $20 analog watch at target that won't run out of battery for a year and I've reached the end of my fucking 36-month contract on my iPhone 12 Pro Max that I'm not trading in so I'll have a drastically cheaper phone bill starting next month

Incidentally, just replaced batteries in my Apple Watch S6, MBP M1 2020, and iPhone 12 Pro Max during a one-day visit to Shenzhen. A dude in Huaqiangbei did everything in two hours for a small fraction of what Apple would charge. ECG stopped working reliably after the battery replacement, but otherwise the watch should be good for another few years (stuck on watchOS 26.x)

on iPhone 12 Pro Max and later (maybe only on Pros, I forget) they have a LiDAR sensor built in, allowing for impressively accurate 3D scans of objects with a free app like Scaniverse. But yeah I think AR was the intention there

Disagree that battery replacement is prohibitive. Current cost to replace battery on my iPhone 12 Pro Max is $90 ($100 for a newer one, $70 for older ones). I definitely replaced batteries on my family's iPhones when they ran the discounted battery replacement special. My phone is at 85% health and still manages to get through the day but paying $90 instead of buying another phone is a good deal for me for say, 2-3 years of additional use.

My work phone is still an iPhone 12. It is fully, pleasantly functional and it still takes good point and shoot pictures. If I had a 12 Pro Max with plenty of storage and a fresh battery, I would continue to use it until end of support.

[...] No lag, all workings... just missing 120hz I just told myself for the first time "Why taking last iPhone and put 1700€?" I take an iPhone 15 Pro Max 512 go titane blue from july 2025 with 100% battery only 60 cycles. [...] Like every brand new iPhone i bought at apple store (xs max, 11pm, 12pm.. So my iPhone 12 Pro Max charger is dead and bricked now since two nights ago. Been using a placeholder charger until I get a replacement on Thursday and it's been a slow charge. 2 1/2 hours to get from 10% to 90%, damn

Just upgraded to this from 11 base. I got it as second hand. For 600 danish kr = 94 us$.
