I've been using a Galaxy Tab S9 for the past year and its very smooth!
I have a Samsung tablet (Galaxy Tab S9+) and I not only suggest but downright recommend it. Sure, right away I switched away from their default apps (launcher, notes, keyboard, etc) but it wasn't difficult. Maybe they got me with their clever marketing but there doesn't seem to be competitive hardware in this class (fast, oled screen, 5g, overall build quality) available from another manufacturer.
I use a Samsung galaxy tab S9+ and I love drawing on it more than my iPad. I got a matte finish screen protector for it and it’s SO smooth to draw on

if u want an ipad to draw on, go with a samsung galaxy tab s9 or something. u dont need to buy a seprate stylus since it comes with one, and it just feels better than an ipad. it works standalone and as a display tablet too. i got one recently and i love it a lot
I use it both on desktop (Firefox) and tablet (Galaxy Tab S9 - Samsung browser). Works fine on both. Probably use it more on the tablet because it gets the whole screen while it's in a smallish window on the desktop.

I agree, although having bought a Samsung Tab S9 for this reason, it too seems to be very limiting. Samsung Dex is cool and all, but the app selection on Android is worse than iOS and I couldn’t find a way to run Linux since Linux on Dex was killed off.
