I bought a Boox Palma a few years ago (2?) and it was one of the best decision ever. Those ereader sizes are among the best ways to lower the threshold to reading, and to limit doom-scrolling time on social media, imho!

I liked my boox palma a lot until its display broke randomly after 2 months in a soft pocket and now it's ewaste.

I use the Onyx Boox Palma for a portable eink drafting setup. It's worked pretty well. I wrote about it here:

There are a few commercial products popping up and marketing. I think youll find what you find here interesting: Im using a Boox palma 2 on a stand, and a Thinkpad Keyboard 2 to emulate the same thing. The battery life may not be 100 hours but considerable.

The BOOX Palma is an e-ink Android device (not a phone) that I run the Kindle app on. It has physical page buttons, and is better than any of the Kindle devices I've used. Also tunable ink speed and color temperature.

I bought a Boox Palma after a couple of eink threads here recently and it primarily exists for me as a replacement phone to reduce eye strain in bed. I can do all the reading I used to do on my phone on the Palma, I can do Anki flashcards, I can comment on HN, I can even watch and get the gist of an embedded short video. I'm hoping there's a good (and not super expensive) smartphone (without cellular) color e ink device in the future. I know a lot of people want the boox palma to have cellular but... I would prefer for it to be cheaper and retain just wifi. I have one, and I've never felt like I need mobile internet on it and I've also never felt like I would want to replace my phone for it either.

I got the Onyx Boox Palma for this. Phone-size E-ink screen (no SIM slot), Android + app store support under the hood.

This device looks very interesting as it's one step closer to Palm/Blackberry style devices with the keyboard. The design is pretty unique, it looks like a more squarish screen than what the e-ink phones usually have. I wonder if they might ever give Unihertz a call about collaborating on a keyboard phone. I just bought the Onyx Boox Palma which is a phone-size backlit e-ink tablet (no keyboard, no SIM). [...] I've had many e-readers in the past and the slow refresh used to make general browsing impossible. Now, screens have multiple refresh rate settings, so using a higher one for the web browser app makes it much more usable.

I only write on my phone if that's all I have on me, but there was one time I had my Boox Palma (phone form factor, but e-ink) and a Bluetooth keyboard, and I wrote an article using that setup while sitting at a picnic bench between matches at a tennis tournament.

i love the boox palma 2 i bought with credit card points. having an eink tablet that runs reading apps, obsidian, etc etc that fits in a pocket and has a zippy screen with great refresh options and bluetooth keyboard support is very cool

yup! been using it actively on both my iPhone and Boox Palma (android device), works great on either platform and desktop too — so glad i went this route rather than doing native and choosing only one

My only real problem with the iPad is that it’s fucking massive. I love reading comics on it but ever since I got a Boox Palma the form factor of the iPad has only gotten more pronounced. Strongly considering trading it in for the mini.

I love my little boox Palma and realized I hadn't been using it for most of the fall because TEACHING. Workflow has often been: buy hard copy of book, pirate ecopy, put on Palma, tho this copy of SHUT DOWN THE BUSINESS SCHOOL is just an $8 ebook. Recommended.

I got a Boox Palma 2 as a sort of companion to the tablet (really intended more for project stuff, especially Ham and Meshtastic) and am blown away by the radical difference in screen brightness with their frontlights off
