It sounds like what you have found out is that not all Apple hardware is worth the hype. Personally, I have the beats fit pro. While still owned by apple and benefiting from the same chip integrations, these have held up just fine for me for a few years now of daily use.
So the Beats Fit Pro have been an investment and I can imagine the fit concept is not for everyone, but I never have in-ears hold so freaking good. I have been using them now close to a year through endless hours of dog walking, housework and now yoga and at least for me now adjustments are needed.

One really interesting effect of the AirPods - is that its changed the paradigm - where the default choice of headphones is Bluetooth. I personally own a pair of Beats fit pros - which are great for running, Zoom calls. Tips and tricks for charging it? So far I’ve been using it for work calls (best non-wired mic experience + sound is good) and for watching shows on my phone with my newborn (sound is better than my in ear beats fit pro). And for taking photos / videos of my kids without having to get my phone
I use beats fit pro. The AirPods wouldn’t stay in my ears. These are great and since they’re apple they work perfectly with my phone.
I’ve been using Beats Fit Pro. You can get them for a good price and the noise cancelling feature works well.
I got the Beats Fit Pro, never had them fall out while I'm hanging front the roof and stuff (bouldering, not a sex thing)
Anecdotal, but recently gave up on AirPods and moved over to Beats Fit Pro to get similar feature parity with my iPhone.
